If it was the 3 port, the frequency wouldn't fluctuate with rpms. Mine in noisy and drove me nuts. Happens whenever my foot is on the gas at all.

If it has a steady "TPM" (ticks per minute
), then I'd say it's probably the EBCS. If you have a stethoscope, use that to find out for sure. |

Well not totally!! I had a buddy put his ear up to the 3port. He couldn't hear really anything. My alternator and belts are ridiculously loud. It's bizarre. He can't hear any ticking noise while I rev te engine 2k-2.5k rpms. But in the cabin I can clearly hear it.
I almost want to say it sounds like its coming from somewhere maybe low and not deep into the engine bay. |

I saw in both posts to check for gold flecks in the oil. Would that be from the bearing breaking down? Sorry for the "dumb question". Im new to this and im just doing the research.

I am having the exact same issue on my 2012 wrx with 11,000k. Dealership couldnt/refused to hear the noise. It was suggested by a tech that it may be a loose heat shield but when the car was cool I tried moving them around to see if it was loose at all and didnt seem to be going anywhere. it drives me crazy and my 3 local dealerships wont look into it. So if anyone finds a solution id be so happy! haha

yea its quite annoying, it honestly seems like its coming from somewhere close to the firewall, and not something towards the headlight area, maybe somewhere low..... but my damn belts and alternator are ridiculously loud, so its impossible to hear anything while looking into the engine bay. Even when you try and stick your head into crevasses, only way to hear it is in the cabin.

Im not sure how i would be able to look into that. I do have TiC Xmember bushings, Group N tranny mount, Shifter kit bushing, i dont think it started when i put those in.
Tranny has never grinded, and i have never miss shifted it, EVER. It shifts SUPER smooth, runs 100%. (at least from what i can tell) Car is vf39'd on a ridiculously smooth tranny "safe" power band, and i still baby it. |
