What Subaru can beat an M3?

Because when I save enough money I'd like to buy a Subaru and modify it, but the only downside is I know nothing about cars and don't want to put money into something I don't know about so how those guys who modify their cars know what they buy and learn how to do it?

Only downside with the new M3 now is that I can't rev the engine above 4500 RPM for the next 12,000 miles so the engine can break in or I may damage it. Not very knowledgeable about cars, but I know I was told something similar when I bought a new motorized 50cc beach cruiser to not full throttle for one tank of gas because the engine needed to break in. Just a random question I'd like to have answered.

Would it really matter if the car could out perform his m3? I'm sure neither one of you can or will push the cars to their limits. So instead of trying to one up your dad, buy something you like and can have fun driving on a daily basis.

To answer the OP's question, yes it's possible. I'd be willing to bet that a stage 2 sti on E85 with coilovers, and a competent driver could give one a very good run around the track, if not beat it. But it depends on the track. The 'ring has alot of long straights and sweepers; not the STi's forte. I chuckeled at the beach crusier thing, because the first thing that popped into my head was a friend of mine cruising on one down the beach lol.

+1. I don't think it would take anything more than e85 and some suspension goodies, but on the 'ring it would also need some undercarriage aero goodies to keep it from getting squirrely. When the 2011 ran a 7:55 it had thicker sway bars, strut tower brace and bushings as well as a full undertray, extended front lip spoiler and a gurney tray taped to the rear, weight reduction as well.

^This. The M3 is definitely the better straightline performance car out of the box and it should be seeing that a typically optioned M3 is over twice as much as an STI and has significantly more power even though it is about 300lbs heavier.

An M3 traps at around 114mph and an STI around 101mph. It would take the STI an extra 110-120whp to get in the 114mph trap range. Can you do that on a stock block? Sure, but your days will be numbered no matter how great you think you tuner is and the safeguards incorporated.

Once you get older, you'll start to care less about being the fastest guy on the street and come to the realization that even a excellent handling low 14 second car on the street is plenty quick, fun, and has more than enough power for most every situation.

I think that the Subaru Road Racing Subaru has an upgraded 20G turbo which is boost limited. I watched it race at Indy this year and it had no problems w the M3's, the Camaros were another story.

Modifying an STi to best an M3 is like dressing up a hooker; she'll look good, but she'll never have class.

I love my STi just as much as anyone else here, but these debates are growing tiresome.

If you can't accept that your WRX/ STi is what it is; then set it on fire and go "invest" in to something that's more capable of addressing your personal insecurities.
