The EJ18, EJ20, EJ22, and EJ25 engines all have the same mounting points to the chassis. The 98 Outback Wagon came with an EJ25, right? So it's the same engine as the one in the 98 Impreza, with some changes internally.

an EJ series engine will pretty much mate up to any other model with an EJ. a EJ18, EJ22, EJ25 should fit in the 98 outback no problem. engine mounting points and where it bolts to the trans are identicle. If you are going 2.5 from impreza to a legacy that originally had a 2.5 then its a no brainer. there may be slight differences between the engines and ECUs. but as far as fitting in, youde enver be able to tell the difference.

Default Outback Sport?

Are you taking about an MY98 outback Sport? If so I plan on doing an MY97 2.5 into a MY97 2.2 impreza L which is the same as the MY98 engine. They are 100% interchangeable and the 2.5 ecu will plug right in to the 2.2 harrness.

From what, '97 and newer, all Outback's had the EJ25? The Impreza started out with an EJ18, then EJ22, then EJ25, (and also EJ20) all with the same chassis. Legacies have had both the EJ22 and the EJ25 in them. The '98 EJ25 from an RS should actually be no different from the EJ25 in the '97 Legacy (both DOHC). The MY99 EJ is where they went to SOHC.

If this garage is the same place that would be doing the swap, I think you need to find a different garage.
