Just got quoted $1185 at dealership for full break servicing(fluids, pads, re-cut rotors). Throttle bottle cleaning. Cabin. Filter new crank belt. Is that sketchy?

Tell them you want a detailed invoice with labor and parts quotes.

Yeah that is ridiculous. Do you need the rotors re-worked? Are they warped? If not, they just need to be lightly scuffed up, or actually just put the pads on the existing rotors with no surfacing. That's what I am going to do when the time comes. My rotors are fine.

My spoiler is here! I pulled off my panels and figured it would be a direct plug and play and then I get this...

The spoiler

The car

I have never soldered before, but I figured this is a great time to learn. What is the best way I can go at this? I'm stopping by the store later tonight to pick up a soldering iron and solder. Do I need anything else?

And for the life of me, I can't even disconnect the brake light cable. Help?

I'd say try to see if the dealer has that plug by it self or if you can find one aftermarket. That should make it much easier.

Yeah. It is pretty obvious that is says "Koni" in the photo.

Cut and drill the front struts.

That whole report is retarded. Nothing but the best from Fox.

You shouldn't be putting Ethanol in your car unless it's specifically tuned for it or if it's a Flexfuel vehicle.

Don't solder it just cut the ends and attach quick-connects.
All you need is a wire cutter/stripper, male/female quick-connects.

Edit: and electrical tape!

Thanks! That sounds even easier. Just a question though, is there something wrong with soldering? I always read that it was the best way to make a connection.

And for the wiper fluid cable, do I just pull it apart?

Sorry, I know this is really off topic and probably annoying but I fail at using nabisco's search. Is there a detailed write up floating around somewhere on how to install an aftermarket HU in the 2010 2.5i? I have no experience with wiring or installing. Thanks for the help.

Search for 08 WRX. You're not going to find anything for 2.5i.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1399151

That shows you how to take everything apart. All you need to do is remove the bezel around the stereo. Pick one of the corners and pull.

You will need a wire crimper/cutter (can be had for cheap at a hardware store/home depot/menards/lowes, etc)

Step 1:

-Connect your aftermarket HU harness to your harness adapter
-Do this inside at a table and take your time. You can use heat shrink, solder the wires, or do what I do and use butt connectors (18-22ga works fine) and then wrap all the way around with electrical tape (that way you can make sure everything is working properly. That's the way I do my HU's and have never had a problem.

Step 2:
- Take off the bezel around your HU with a flat head screwdriver. Wrap it with a cloth so you don't scratch the bezel

- If you look closely at the bottom right hand corner of the bezel you will see a small notch in the bezel where a flat head will fit. You can use some force and it will pop off.

- Unscrew the bracket screws holding the HU in place

- Pull out the HU and disconnect the harness (1 big white plug) and small black plug which is the antenna (I think that's our car at least)

- Remove the brackets from stock HU and attach them to the new HU (or use aftermarket brackets if applicable). It's a couple small phillips screws that hold each bracket on. One on the left and one on the right.

- Connect new HU harness to your cars harness and ground the black wire to one of the bolts that is touching metal behind your HU. You can either use a ring terminal or just wrap the wire around the screw and tighten.

- Test your connections! Play around with the fade from left to right and front to back to make sure each speaker is working. Check out if the remote works. Check everything you can on the unit.

- Snap bezel back in place and enjoy.

That's a good thread. But it doesn't explain how to install a new HU. It simply shows how to disassemble the entire dash and what stuff is.

Nothing wrong with soldering! I like quick connects because it's easy and cheap
You cut the clip off and strip 1/2" of insulation. Put the exposed wire into the quick connect and clamp it down on the wire real tight. The male/female ends plug right into each other and then tape it or shrink wrap the connections to protect them.

It's actually blend of 15% Ethanol & 85% gasoline... but we don't have to worry about it because it doesn't exist here in CA.

I had HELLA 500FF's with 3000k HID's and they worked great for the price.

Yes. Just lightly pull on the rubber hoses. Be careful some fluid will probably come out.

e-10 is technically standard fuel. Does that make you feel better? However, Standard fuel is not called "e-10" nor is it sold as a "Flexfuel". In the Fox report they show e-15 being sold as a flexfuel. AKA, it's not a real issue. If you're dumb enough to put flexfuel in your standard car you deserve the damage. It's clearly a slow news day if they are regurgitating a AAA bulletin.

For the record, MSNBC is just as bad as Fox. I don't rely on any one single source for my news. No one source always gets it right. But I know that there are sources, like Fox, and are pretty consistent at twisting the truth, generally being misinformed and spreading misinformation.

But I suppose we should thank you for passing this valuable information along. You know, since it applies to so many people when the fuel in question is only being sold in a few states. Or because the information is so current because the bulletin and broadcast are from November.

wtf.....

Do the TB cleaning yourself... $4 for a can of TB spray.

Cabin filter, $20 from amazon, do it yourself.

I'd buy new rotors instead of re-cutting them..

So when you said ethanol isn't "gasoline", that had nothing to do with anything. Right. You probably have e-10 in your car right now, and the EPA would love for it to be e-15 with no extra labels or warnings.

I'm not going tp clog up this thread further with a stupid argument, I just thought it was an interesting article. But you being an *** hole about it, great stuff.. well done.
