He said the state doesn't care about the rear window and then he couldn't answer my questions about what percent tint was actually legal... whatever. Won't be going there again.
Last I checked you can have the rear windshield as dark as you want as long as you had 2 outside mirrors

Putting a sticker on a car that should fail in MA could result in loss of inspector license and drivers license for the inspector as well as a hefty fine to the shop ( thinks its up to $2500 now i could be wrong on the fine though).
Why should anyone risk there lively hood and reputation to put a sticker on a illegal car? The reality is you have avenues to take with MA if you feel your being taken advantage of, Want to know what the tint laws are? Simple call the DMV or go the MA registry site where all the state inspection laws are posted. Go in with that knowledge and ask to to see the tint meter results. If you choose not to educate yourself and just bash the shops or people then you have no one to blame but yourself for the outcome. Anyone who has gotten a a failure has the right to challenge it by calling the local DMV and requesting a challenge. They will send you to a shop of there choosing and there the results can be challenged. So for that friends Camry with the phantom exhaust leak why not challenge it instead of bashing the shop if your so right? Its not like he can go to another shop with out some sort of repair made since its in the registry for a exhaust failure. That is the first thing there going look at.

Edit:: As was previously mentioned MA Registry does sit in parking lots and sends cars and people to bribe that wont pass to shops all the time.

He was just being a dick, the Camry was taken to 2 other mechanic shops (one a family member, and one with no relation and never seen the car before so no bias to the car) it was ran through the computer and manually inspected by both shops and nothing is wrong. He went to another inspection place, and got passed within 10 minutes.

I wasn't bashing him because he's strict about his job, I'm bashing him because he's an ******* for no reason. And picks and chooses who he passes.

You know as a consumer you can report shops and contest failed inspections, right?

You whined here about it, and told people to not go there?

Fwiw, my truck has been inspected there a couple times without issues.

This thread got me curious what exactly the tint law in RI is and I found this site that has links to every state's tint law. Just found it interesting and figured I would share.

Is this fool proof? No. Have I just been lucky? Yea probably. (Til you look at my ticket record haha) but there are ways around tint laws.
Hey guy, I was wondering how you get away with such dark tint. Can you tell me or PM which shop you go to so I can start developing a good repor with them. My girl has 20% on her SWP sport hatch and I'm wanna get my WRB tinted but don't want the legal limit, I want 20% on mine.
Thanks Man.

Most people know someone with a backyard state inspection shop.

Nothing a $20 dollar tip can't take care of

A $20 tip that can make someone lose their job.

Sounds like a great tip to me.

Don't get so bent out of shape. I look at it this way if you smart enough to fool the state and no CEL I'm not going to bust chops. But safety is another thing. Front end tires and seat belts better be in good working order. Tint is where I'm not a stickler though.

Who's bent out of shape?

Don't get me wrong, I have to use funny inspection stations go get stickers on my cars. But those are friend shops and they know that if they're not comfortable I'll come back later or go elsewhere. I'm not going to offer them cash on the side because then they feel obligated to.

Or maybe you're looking at it wrong, and you're being rude by not giving them a tip
