Ok, I am going to get the flat black Rota Grids 17x9 +42 wrapped in the Falken FK-452 245/40's.

This setup weighs exactly 8lbs(2lbs per tire) more than my current 17x7 with 225/45's setup(stock)

I am very happy because I am pretty much staying at the same weight while going with bigger wheels/tires with an overall smaller diameter which is also beneficial.

Ill post pics when I swap em out

Thanks to all of you who have helped me make up my mind.

Is that a typo? 245/45 are not stock tires. 215/45

No it wasn't a typo.

I know stock it came with 215's but when I replaced the tires 5 years ago I upped them to the 225's.

So it's still a typo...somewhere.

oops.. yeah I just noticed I put 245/45.. my bad.. I meant 225/45 (fixed it)

Cant wait for this ordeal to be over with so I can move onto bigger and better things like investing in a stage 2 kit. (depending on how my ride looks like with stock height.. I may get springs or coilovers before touching power performance.)

Im going to slowly look into good downpipes and exhausts. ( I think I may go with the cobb AP because I doubt there is a good local tuner here)

Open for suggestions, but haven't done any research yet.

1. either buy wheels that actually fit and make your car handle well

OR

2. jump on the bandwagon of hellafagness and make your wheels poke, your tires stretch, and your handling and performance suck balls.

Option 2 also costs more because wider and larger wheels = more $ and smaller sidewall tires = more $

what do you want? your car to look super hip cool fad or do you want performance and handling?

also, the further away from stock offset you go the worse your car is going to handle. dont beleive me? try for yourself

just buy some 17x8 with an oiffset of +45 or higher (53 is stock) w/ a 235/40 or better yet 245/40 tire and call it a day. this is the ideal setup for your car.

EDIT*** i didnt notice you had already made up your mind. 2lbs per corner is a NOTICEABLE increase in weight. your car WILL be slower. i was running 17x9 +42 rotas w/255s and it was so heavy i sold it after 6 months for some 5x100 sti bbs. even though i
"downgraded" from a 255 to a 225 tire, the weight savings are worth way more than tire width. its not even funny how much better it is now. that size suck,ed

Thanks for the advice, Ill stick with the performance side of things instead of just looks.

I hope going from +55 to +42 wont hurt the handling too much. (don't have any experience with it)

I guess Ill have to find out.. I mean stock the car is amazing.. lol I have a buddy that sold his 05 STI 1-2 years ago and he completely tuned that baby up(stuck about 10-15k into his subie) Turns out he couldn't use it as DD anymore because of how uncomfortable and jerky it was. So he traded it in with a fully loaded kia optima SMH.

^^This is what I want to avoid, so I think stopping at stage 2 will be perfect... any further than that youre going to be running into problems and spending a ton of money.

Only sad thing is a 06 WRX is still not any faster at stage 2 then a stock sti... correct?

you should create a separate thread in the correct forums about engine performance threads.

a full tbe with tune on a 2.5l wrx will get you same or more hp than a stock sti.

oh ok I didn't know, thought its better to make less threads.

and that's pretty good since the WRX is probably lighter since it doesn't have that HUGE wing on the trunk and smaller turbo and TMIC and only 5 spd.

Ill definitely be happy with that power on nice wheels and a nice sounding engine.

As far as the wheels go I cant order them until the vendor pms me back.. Hes been gone for a few days now :/

they arrived!! going to install them tomorrow afternoon!

THEY LOOK HUGE!!

The tread on the tires are amazing... and the tires look like they have a tiny bit of stretch to them... looks really nice.
With 255's theyd probably be square with the wheels.

So far I am very happy, cant wait to put them on tomorrow! (They all have 40psi in them)

What tires did you get? Can't tell from the pic.

I'd start with 35 all around.

falkens, I think I found the arrow.. its part of the design on the sidewall?

and ok Ill bump the psi down to 35 all around.

I did some reading on autocross and many people recommend at least 40 all around. Also the front should be a few psi higher because it is heavier..?

Im installing them in 4 hours. Ill post some before and after pictures!!
