Are you putting a full blown windshield on it?

Couldn't you get away with a side cage bar like the Spec Ariel Atom:

That and the, I don't know what they're called, shortie windshields that you see on a lot of race cars:

or:

note the side bars on the 818 too.

I like the look of the roll bar on the Atom in the post above... Hell, I plan on driving my TR-42 with a helmet on anyway so no windscreen for me

It "was" Just a V6, I built it for my father-in-law to go rock crawling...Then the boat bug bit him and it was traded to a pontoon boat before we finished it...sad

Oh, you don't have to tell me. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person (ok maybe a handful) that have a drive a Formula SAE on public roads with semis...

I was just speaking from a less motorcycle-like point of safety. A front hoop adds minimal weight, adds rigidity and could safe your life.

Not saying it's for everyone, just saying that I would want one.

I think the way we will all be driving these types of cars, the cage like the Spec Atom should be the lightest cage we should think about. Something about being upside down sliding along at 60 mph makes me worried about anything less. 30 or 40 extra pounds for thicker wall tubing or a few extra feet of it might pay back huge returns one evening. The 818 frame is no where near strong enough for my feelings. And the stock Atom with the center hoop only is asking for one shoulder to be ground off upside down.

Hahaha, I have to agree... I was supposed to fly three times this week and somehow two of the three helicopters were broken... thats a wonderful 33% success rate this week... So just as theres no such thing as a "perfectly good airplane in the army", the same thing goes for the helicopters. And when things go wrong for us, there's no jumping out. We get to ride out aircraft straight to the scene of the crash...

Pook, before I can pull the trigger on mine I need to make sure I get deployment orders. Until then I'm in the brain storming / planning phase...

you can rappel from the helicopter.....unless the rope breaks when you are 30-40 feet off the ground.
