Default RomRaider not picking up MTX-L

Quick question: I'm having trouble getting RomRaider to see my new MTX-L (Innovate). Innovate's Logworks software sees and logs the data just fine and the gauge that came with the kit seems to be working nicely. RomRaider sees the "Innovate MTS" connection on the serial bus, but normally when I first start up RR and go to external sensors and select it, it just displays a zero. Some times after a while it'll then suddenly display the correct AFR for about a second then just freezes there. And once it for some reason alternated between 20 and -9?

My common sense is telling me it's a driver issue and I'm going to do a re-install of RR and the innovate drivers. Is my common sense leading me down the right path or has anyone else had this issue? I was first thinking it could be my serial-usb adapter however logworks is seeing the signal just fine so I'm doubting that.

Running x64 W7 Ultimate. RomRaider Version 0.5.4 Beta RC1 (Updating this as I speak, since I realize it's old...)

After re-installing drivers (for both the serial-usb cable and the MTX-L) as well as re-install of RomRaider and ECUFlash it is working a little better, however it's still flaky.

Frequently the reading just "locks up" in RR and doesn't display a current value. Some times un-checking and re-checking it gets it working again. Other times I have to re-start RR and fiddle with things to get it working again.

Usually it seems to "lock up" when I'm in engine braking (ie max AFR) and the reading in RR jumps super high to around 80-100 or so and then back down to 20 and then freezes. Other times it just freezes around stoich.

RomRaider seems very sensitive to the input quality. I was having the same issue for a long time and finally figured out that it was my junky serial to USB cable. I invested in a really nice one from radio shack it works a lot better. Once in a while, when I select the wideband com port and then click to display it, RR will start picking up funky numbers from the other logging params. If I just de-select one of them, it will go back to normal. Prior to the new serial/usb cable, I would frequently get BSODs or have RR lock up completely.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated. When you were having those issue, was it working fine in Logworks (assuming you are using an Innovate MTX-L) though? That's the thing that kinda baffles me. I had considered it could be the USB-serial cable I ordered from newegg however I'd think if that was the case it wouldn't be working so well with Logworks either(?)

At any rate I'll take a trip to radio shack and try a better one. I've been ignoring my gut on this one. Now that you AND my gut are telling me the same thing...

Also, what is the proper procedure and order of things when beginning a logging session with a wide-band in RR? Specifically with the Innovate MTX-L? Should I be going to "plugins" at the top and selecting "Innovate MTS" or "Innovate AFR" each time? And since I have the MTX-L I assume i should be selecting the "MTS" one? Then after that I select "Innovate MTX-L/0" or whatever shows up in the External Sensors tab(?) ...that's what I've been doing at least.

Yeah, I forgot to tell you that. Logworks would always be flawless even though RR would have issues. I trouble with my LC-1 and the MTX-L. Here is my process for logging for both types of Innovate widebands:

1. Have the wideband powered and all cables connected.
2. Plug the USB cable for the wideband into the latop
3. Start RomRaider logger
4. Select plugins, Innovate Wideband AFR (even for the MTX-L).
5. Click external sensors tab and check the box for Innovate Wideband AFR

The MTX-L will work great as "Innovate Wideband AFR" from my experience.

I've had the same problems with LC-1's and now my MTX-L locking up under the same conditions in RR, under decel. The fix for me was flashing the unit to the old firmware. Works like a charm after that. I've been using my MTX-L for over 9 months now in a daily driver w/o a glitch.

Thanks guys. I didn't update the firmware on the MTX-L yet so I'll just keep the old then. Also I had been trying to select the MTS or MTX-L (can't remember exactly what it said) for the MTX-L instead of just the plain ol' "Innovate Wideband AFR."

Now that I'm using the "Innovate Wideband AFR" option in RR it works great... Thanks! Also I need to get the routine down for hooking everything up/getting things turned on. For some reason just adding the wide band has thrown off my routine. =D

Now to ask here also... either of you have any idea why my OL fueling is taking forever to drop to what I have set in the tables? Here's the thread I posted in the main tuning forum: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2458521.

Here's the log to show what I mean: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...OYmF2Y1E#gid=0

I think there's probably some smoothing logic in there that transitions the OL enrichment target down to the target your table is commanding. The logic probably also dictates how much smoothing is applied based on how quickly load changes which would explain why it happens at different rates.

Your log looks normal to me. You wouldn't want a sharp drop in your AFRs anyway. You want it to smoothly transition like its doing now.

Great, thanks. I've been wondering about that... and figured there had to be some sort of smoothing or something inherit in the ECU. Just kinda worries me since it's dipping into pretty high load cells while still in the 12+ AFR range.

...I'll quit worrying about it. =D
