Hello everyone. 2005 wrx 160,000 miles.. Pretty stock except cobb dp, perrin short ram and exhaust. A local shop in town is going to start my hybrid swap on monday. Heads should be sent in on monday as well. Getting a new 2.5 from the factory. Buying new intercooler, radiator, and hoses hopefully today off the internet. Not sure what turbo, injectors, or clutch (still stock trans. Original clutch). Leaning towards vf39 or an equivalent. It will be daily driver. Im not wanting 400 hp. Any advice? Tips?

get a new(er) VF48 if you want to remain at a relatively stock level. At LEAST 545cc injectors; 650cc injectors for a little more "oompf" (top feed). Get a step above the OEM clutch (5MT). Even with a VF39,43 and 48 the stock clutch will slip more than likely. With stock STi (ej257 I'm assuming you're getting) pistons can't take much over what the VF48 can dish out. You can probably get away with a 16-18g turbo, but I wouldn't push it if you want to keep it safe.

Topfeed; only side-feed models were the 04-06 STi.

EDIT* you're gonna need a tune as well. Link up with a reputable tuner in your area and see about getting a Cobb accessport.

with it being a sti 2.5 short block from 04-06 with my 2.0 heads, would it still be topfeed? i have the cobb accessport and a tuner in Las Vegas, NV (only 1.5 hour drive) he's done a few hybrids.

Yep, still top feed. The 02-13 WRX has the injectors sitting in the TGV (Tumbler generator valves) feeding through the heads. So 02-05 WRX= 2.0l heads=top feed injectors. Unabomber has some FAQs in the 'General' section iirc that addresses what models use what injectors and why.

02-13 WRX: top feed
04-06 STi: Side-feed
07-13 STi: Top feed

i have an exedy stage 1 heavy duty in my hybrid, my stock clutch slipped with a Td04 on 17 LBS, it holds good now, and isnt as beefy as an ACT would be on the gears

I just got my car back friday. Did the hybrid swap. I put the Act HD street performance clutch in. Ive only driven it 25 miles. No chatter. No noise at all. Not sure if you have to drive like a bat out of hell to get any noise to appear. Just a little stiffer than stock. I'm happy with it.

Similar to my build. I've got about 35,000 on mine and mine is running like a champ too. Recently compression tested with 150 on all four cylinders

good afternoon. figured id chime in. idk if im in the right spot or not..so if im not feel free to move me. i have an sf5 wagon with a swap. 93 ej22T bottom end, 2.5rs heads, vf39. currently on about 9/10lbs. 02 rex bluetops, wideband o2, tuned with an afc. i guess what i wanted to know is how reliable are these bottom ends are. i know its a closed deck block...and trust this isnt my first turbo vehicle, so i do monitor as much as i possibly can with gauges and such..but to my knowledge they are pretty stout motors. pulls quite hard too. its my daily so it doesnt get abused like this very often, but if i need to pass somebody, as long as they arent making crazy power, i will. can somebody give me a rough estimate of how much power im making? unfortunately i havent been able to get it on a dyno just yet..in due time hopefully. just by driving it though i can tell you that the torque has got to be higher than the horse. but i could be wrong. thanks!
