** EDIT ** I mean turbine wheel (exhaust-side) instead of compressor wheel - where mentioned in pictures! Sorry! **
Take, for an example, two turbine wheel blades placed atop each other. The smaller turbines would have some sort of "blocking" intake from the secondary turbine, until a certain rpm is met where the smaller intake can no longer take the pressure and then overflow into the secondary turbine wheel. The primary (small) turbine would also somewhat feed into the secondary (larger) turbine. Both are on the same solid shaft. Since this doesn't make much sense, I went ahead and drew a couple of awesome pictures. ![]() ![]() Also, instead of drilled holes.. what about potentially having "high temp" pressure activated valves? Hmmm.. Since I'm not too much of an engineer, this was just thought up in my head and it seems like it would work (probably with some caveats). Thoughts? Does something like this already exist? Is it mechanically possible to be more efficient if so, versus a twin turbo? *update* The COMPRESSOR wheel could be single but slightly larger than usual because it would spin at great speeds throughout the band.. maybe even a dual compressor wheel! Or am I retarded? ![]()

Already present in the diesel world. I believe the new ford 6.7l uses a dual compressor wheel setup.

That compressor looks so cool. When doing turbo testing, back when I was in the diesel powertrain world, I would just stair at that thing and think of the g-code

I think I understand what you mean, like two separate exhaust turbines sharing the same shaft and outlet, just two separate inlets. Small, quick spooling turbine closest to the compressor, then a larger, high volume turbine on the opposite end.
Think of it like having a 1.5 scroll up pipe, except only one could get flow at a time (That would take a little engineering). The exhaust flows through the small turbine until a specified turbine RPM, then a solenoid or some sort of device switches exhaust flow to the second, larger turbine. Interesting thought to ponder... |

Why not vgt plus dual turbines and compressors with rocket style antilag thrown in for good measure!!!
So much torque you could screw with the earths rotation! Damn. I want 100 psi of boost at idle!!!!!!!! Lol |
