Just FYI if anyone is interested I called SOA complaining about my rear view mirror falling off twice already and the blinker issue twice already and having to replace my clutch after 10,000 miles cause the spring in the clutch disc broke. Told them I was disappointed couple days later they called back and asked what I wanted, told them to extend my warranty and they did without hesitating to their max coverage. Hopefully that helps some of you...

Did a quick google search and found multiple people say its the wires. Got under the car and removed the two front push clips for the fender liner to the bumper. Reached my hand up and the wires were wrapped up and being pulled. Fiddled with them and made sure they were away from anything to tangle them and made sure the bulb connector was in correctly.

500 miles and no more problems.

6xxx miles and now after the first frost last week, BOTH my blinkers started up again.

My passenger side blinker was just fixed by dealership by replacing the headlight assembly but that clearly didn't do squat because that "fix" they made lasted a good...5 minutes. As soon as I merged onto the highway, there it was again.

I'm going to give the dealership one more go. Third time's the charm, right?

no. its not.

i've had this happen to me atleast 6 times already. the first handful of times they replaced the bulbs. then i asked a few friends who are techs, and they told me the ONLY fix is toe replace the harness. also i know its not a bulb because it would sometimes work when i hit a big bump, and then stop when a bump was hit again, thus the bulb is CLEARLY still working fine its the connection thats messed up.

from factory they come twisted, angled and sometimes pulling on the bulb/headlight thus it causes a bad connection, bad ground, etc etc.

if you want to fix it yourself cut you wheel, unclip the fender liner and look at the harness, it will be at a weird angle. in one instance for me the passenger side was being crushed and pressed against something metal.

the problem is with position and sometimes quality of harness, not cheap bulbs. please dont spread wrongful information if you can't back it up.

Fooled with mine a few times and the problem would go away, then come back maybe a day later. Took out the battery and really moved the wires around so they would stay. Problem has been fixed for at least 6 months.

2008 wrx ~48,500

first occurrence happened a year and a half ago. dealership fixes the issue free of charge, warns me that if it happens again they will need to replace the headlight assembly.
fast turn signal came up again a few days ago, dealership tells me they have to swap out the headlight assembly which costs $500+, not covered under extended warranty. contacted SoA, they're looking into it and will get back to me.

Did you get in there and try to straiten out the wire so it is not pinched against the fender? That fixed it for me.

I haven't tried but the service guy says the fuse(?) is bad. I sure hope they're not outright lying...
SoA called back and said they'll go 50% on the bill. I didn't wanna sound like an ungrateful jerk so I thanked him, but I still feel the whole situation is messed up

Try playing with your wire first and see if it pinched against the fender. I was able to loosed the batter with out taking it out and reached in there and fixed it that way if yours is the drivers side.

The headlamp assembly has all of the wiring, sockets, and bulbs in place before it is installed onto the vehicle.

The way the car is designed is that there is a metal bracket/support that the headlamp assembly effectively sits against when it is installed. The wire for the marker/signal socket is effectively pinched between this support and the headlamp assembly.

You would want to remove the nuts/bolts that hold the headlamp assembly to the vehicle so that you can move the socket/wire through/between the assembly and support so that the socket/wire can now go over/inside the support/vehicle and then back into the opening in the assembly.

This is the fix.

The same goes for the tail-lamps. The wiring is in place and is effectively pinched between the lamp and the vehicle.

This is the quick-and-easy way for the factory to assemble the lamps to the vehicle. Otherwise, the lamps would not have any wiring/sockets on them and would be installed 'naked'. Then when being installed to the vehicle, the assembly-person would then have to insert the correct socket/connector position from the car into the lamp. If this were the way it was done, then there would be no pinching of the wires, but it takes more time to do so.

They may not be covering it under your warranty extension because it doesn't cover 'lights'. But, the prob. Is actually the wiring which should be listed as covered. Maybe check the wording in your contract and fight it out with them a bit? At least for the other 50%?

Smile Turn Signal Blinking Quickly

My friends, my 2012 WRX drivers side turn signal started blinking very quickly. Owners manual says it's a bulb. Took it to dealer, for another issue, it's the wiring harness NOT A BULB. Fixed for no dolla since under warranty. Please take them to the dealers if under warranty. I think this should be a recall.
