There are a few threads on importing and it basically sounds like a bad idea or maybe impossible. Try this one: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2270851

Even if you did manage it, I think it would be a pain to daily drive a UK car here (and I'm from the UK).

Google found the details for the state I live in: http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/pdotforms...ts/fs-ieve.pdf

Note the FAQ includes this:

Quote:
Q. Who can import a vehicle into the U.S.?

A. Anyone can import a vehicle into the U.S., if the vehicle is being brought into the U.S. for the personal use of the
person importing the vehicle providing the vehicle complies with U.S. EPA emissions and DOT safety standards.
Otherwise, a U.S. Department of Transportation Registered Importer must import the vehicle.
NOTE: A non-U.S. resident may import a vehicle for up to one year in the U.S., but at the end of the one-year time frame, the
vehicle must be exported. There are no exceptions to this policy.
Just Google for whatever state you plan to import into.

Then you have to consider issues like getting insurance on a highly modified, imported vehicle. That could cost you.
