Default Idle/boosting problems in cold weather 2008 (4eat) wrx

y '08 has popped with a code that says all four of my cylinders are misfiring. I also noticed that right before the check engine light would pop on I would be sitting at a light idling and the car would shake side to side in a really weird manner. Once I would take off the light would come on alone with turning off the TCS and make my cruise control light flash.

After: reflashing ots stg2 map from cobb.
i did take off my battery to take off my turbo timer 3 days ago. Oh the highway, my car seems to jerk (its a 4eat) when i enter boost and it cuts all boost out not allowing me to either not boost at all or 3-4psi max. i just reflashed my stg2 map and theres no code but the boost thing also concerns me. i'll keep an update.

Could it be the spark plugs and/or coils?

Thoughts and more info would be appreciated. I shall also go continue to search for more and see what I can find. (yes i'm reading up a lot)

I am not saying that this is your problem, but check out (search) for intake gasket issues. A lot of us 08 guys (me included) have had issues with the intake gaskets between the intake manifold and TGV assemblies. Subaru has a beefier gasket set now (they took care of the gasket issue with the 09 release) that has taken care of issues like you describe. I beleive it is an issue with the plastic intake manifold and metal TGV assemblies being of dissimilar materials (the colder it is the worse it gets). I personally had a leak in my No. 3 gasket that was causing some awfully weird idling before the engine was at normal temp (bad missing and real rough idling). It also created a vacuum/boost leak all the time that was making my AFR Learning go all over the place. New gaskets no problems now. They are a PITA to change out, but worth it. You could always wait until warm weather and it will go away, but it is an issue that will undoubtedly get worse with time. I can't internet diagnose real good, but I would start researching the gasket issue before you go too crazy. It would also explain why your ECU is limiting/cutting boost. It is trying to save your engine from going pop! The gasket set is relatively cheap compared to coils and such.

If you have an AP, go to Cobb's site and see what range of AFR Learning you should be seeing. I bet yours is all over the place trying to correct for the manifold leak(s). I could be wrong, but it would be a good start.

Keep us posted man. Good luck.

i did the intake manifold gaskets on my 08 wrx. I did not help with the boost problem. it sounds to me like this is the same problem im having. I am going to throw some fuel injector cleaner in and if that does not work then im going to replace the fuel filter and so on.

I would say coils!...but the fact that it's cutting all boost makes me reconsider...I had bad coils and my car would still hit 10 psi at least...obviously not recommended when it's misfiring...thinking you might of posted the wrong picture, sir. ^
