The connector and pins for power, speakers, illumination, and power antenna control are all the same on all non-nav 2008-up Impreza/WRX/STI/OBS, Crosstreks, and all 2009-up non-nav Foresters.

All of those have wires for the steering wheel controls on pins 4 and 14 (even if the wheel doesn't have the buttons). 2011-up models with Bluetooth built into the HU added a 3rd SWC wire at pin 13. See ae64.com for additional info.

Oh hi guys! I've been at this myself recently. Working now on getting access to the firewall to route the sensors through. Pic below is all cleaned up now, wired, and working!

Bumping this up, since I just purchased a Pioneer 2500bt. After reading through these 14 pages, my understanding is that I'm going to need TWO Metra 70-7552 kits, parking brake override, and the SWC interface, correct?

You could. An easier solution is to use one of these.

For 2008-up models without the phone/Bluetooth buttons on the steering wheel (or without any audio steering wheel controls at all) and without OEM navigation, see this.

For 2011-up models with the phone/BT buttons on the wheel (still without OEM nav), see this.

Those links also apply to Canadian "Sport Tech" models that were fitted with the "OEM" Pioneer nav HUs (in other words, the cars still have Subaru's non-nav factory harnesses, so they require the same set of adapters to switch to a different aftermarket head unit).

Thanks for the link! I just emailed him to see who much/how long it would take for me to receive it.

Just went through all 14 pages of this thread and found some confusing/conflicting information on installing an AUX in a stock radio w/out Nav.

I have a 2010 and want to install an aux cable. It'd be great if it was auxiliary that was a USB cable to connect to my iPhone AND charge it, but it doesn't seem easy with this radio (correct me if I'm wrong). Maybe if I connected the USB/iphone cable to the AUX and a power source…

But what I was also looking for is what port/plug configuration is the AUX in the back of the stock radio for a 2008-2010? I see the picture of the back of the unit, but I have no idea what is what. I don't see a standard 3.5mm jack. I'd rather not pay the crazy money Subaru, PAC, and some other companies want for the equipment to install it if I can find or make the cords easily myself.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

if it's anything like the old iPod interface, it plugs directly into the back of the radio and the module bolts in above the radio. it goes car wiring harness into media hub harness into the radio. if I may make it simpler, [car harness->media hub harness->radio]

The Subaru media hub? Man that thing got terrible reviews, and I would never pay the price they ask. But yea that essentially looks like the PAC and GROM ones as well. But even theirs are pricey.

But do you know what port the AUX line in is? From the picture earlier in this thread showing the back of the HU there's (IIRC) 2 ports with at least 12 pins? One much smaller sized one with maybe like 8 and then a simple circular port as well.

*EDIT* actually, I spoke too soon.

so after seeing this picture that whomever runs ae64 posted earlier: http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/7703/auxin.jpg
and referencing the picture of the back of the head unit, it's an 8 pin connector. But I still don't know the name of it, if there is one, and if it's still possible to plug a line into that with a 8-pin to female USB and splice power into it as well so it will charge a phone and play audio from it. Maybe it will just be safer/much simpler to keep the AUX purely for audio as intentioned and then use one of the 12V's to charge the dang phone…I just like making things complex I guess.

I was referencing the PAC and GROM type ones that look similar in design and components to what mschiavoni just mentioned.

one is for the default connections, I'm not sure what the others are for. I bought and installed the Bluetooth radio and simply play it via streaming audio. it's amazing the data it gives you. artist, album, etc. all over Bluetooth. IMO it's a better connection and the quality is amazing. and if you don't have the Bluetooth radio you can pick one up for a lot less than the media hub got mine for like $160 shipped iirc

there's no 3.5mm line in jack. it goes into the interface (which comes with the media hub) and from there it uses one of the connections on the back of the radio

Sounds good but, I honestly still don't want to pay that much just to be able to play music from a phone without using a wireless FM transmitter type deal.

So now knowing that it is an 8-pin connector I went back and read again. For a while it was a subwoofer connection port. Then they changed it to serve as an AUX port. The OP lists how you can buy the astray AUX port product, and someone else figured out how to order the cable to connect from that to the 8-pin AUX on the back of the radio. What stinks is that the AUX ashtray product, which looks great since it replaces the ashtray, is $52. Plus the $18 basically for the wire. But that simple OEM Subaru HU AUX audio line in cable can't be too expensive on its own. Being able to buy that and then use an audio in to 3.5mm cord will solve the problem…just have no clue where to get that OEM cord from

Need a little guidance here.. If I buy this

Applicable to most* 2008-2012 Impreza/WRX/STI and 2009-2012 Forester
Metra 70-7552
Scosche NN04B
American International NWH-704
Best Kits BHA7552
(all originally intended for newer Nissans, which have a very similar factory radio harness).

The harness will plug into the factory harness on end, and on the other end I can solder/heat shrink to the harness that comes with the radio?

I have a GR hatch and I wanna install a pioneer AVIC

There is a lot of good information in this thread. Thank you guys for all your inputin it. However, I'm a little bit confused on connectors and harness. I have a 2009 Subaru Impreza Premium with non-navigation HU and I have a possibility of buying a Navigation unit off of 2008 Impreza WRX. The question I have, is that if I could swap that out using some kind of harness and keep using the Steering wheel control, and a factory OEM Subaru subwoofer that I would like to get along with that unit. I know I will probably need to email SVXdc and ask for it but just wanted to see if it's doable before I make a purchase. Also, the unit does not come with GPS antenna nor camera, do you know of any place where I could buy those as well?

You need to purchase a new led/bulb unit in the color of your choice. They are called "lamp pocket" at the dealer. They can be ordered online too.

66237SA120 is the red LED for the cubby.

66237SA020 is the blue one.

These also work in the glovebox.
