which P/N? i've been shown three by several different dealers, even using my VIN.

57707FJ030 BRKT SD F LH
57707FG131 Brkt Sd F Wr7 Lh
57707FG132 BRKT SD F WR7 LH

the body shop is having two come in; the one that has arrived, that ends in 131...that one looks like the proper piece but who knows considering what the dealers have said.

I have no idea. I sent Fred Beans the diagram and asked they could get them. I'll know when I get them in a few days because PN should be on the bag(s). I used the 2011 STI diagram.

the body shop has all three planned for review. 131 already showed up as i mentioned, 030 is coming tomorrow and 132 should be here later in the week.

i spoke to someone at Fred Beans and he said the 132 is a supersession of 131, quite possibly an improvement or design change of some sort.

so, while 131 looks like the right part, i am going to be patient and wait to see what 132 looks like before i make a move.

EDIT: i spoke to Subaru of America and a Parts Information Coordinator confirmed 132 is the one i need, as it replaced 131. the FJ030 is for a regular impreza.

i can't wait. i was in Atlanta all day today (i live in NJ) and apparently all three part numbers are at the body shop so i'll roll over tomorrow and get this damn thing situated. i also realized that it might be possible to put a string around the tongue part of the first clip and use the removed side vent as an access hole to take the strings and pull the tongue down to allow the bumper tab to make it over the clip. but honestly i think this is gonna work regardless. we'll see!

where though? at the minimum, i can pretty much assure you there isn't a screw that moves the clip strip. the pieces snap into the holes in the fender and that's it. the two 8mm screws make sure those clips don't move, and the 10mm bolt that goes toward the engine does the same thing - a stabilizer.

anyway, i found out the 132 number is actually the same as the 131. i had both in my hand and noticed that while the order stickers on the bag said 132, the actual subaru bar code sticker said 131. i remembered that the SoA contact had forwarded me an image from someone internally at Subaru. so i pulled up that email and called the internal person. i talked with a parts info coordinator for SoA and he said it's a case where they will bleed down the old inventory first because the part has not actually changed, just the number has.

so i replaced the clip and it snapped in very nicely (sounded like it, but wasn't completely) but popped out again on a short drive. the clip near the light could just not fully overcome the bumper tab BUT if it went any further in (it wouldn't), the body line would be messed up as the bumper would be "sucked in" vs. the fender. it's the weirdest thing. i worked on it in so many ways, filing the bumper side, trimming it, etc and just couldn't get it to work even when the clip would eventually seem to overcome the bumper tab.

so after putting it back together like five times today then driving down the road only to find it popped out again, i decided to just throw some silicone adhesive on the tabs, snap it together and let it sit over night. i know that isn't ideal, but it looks perfect so if i can at least get it to sit properly and stay in place for the time being, i can decide how to move forward. unfortunately...i think i'm going to need a new bumper if i want it to act like factory and if i want to be able to remove my bumper down the line. this is such a terrible experience, lol.

EDIT: i decided to just call SoA while taking it in for review by the local dealer. a field rep is going to check it out. something is just defective with the bumper tabs or something - it has to be because for it to fully engage the bumper side of the body line would be majorly sucked in. i told them i filed it to get it to work but regardless i called SoA before all of this to discuss the part so let's see if they try to fault me for trying to fix it myself, ha. with the small paint defect and this stuff all being on one side, i hope i'm not going down the road i went with my wife's Si when it was hit at port and they bought it back.

Bumper fixed. I got one each of 57707FG122 and 57707FG132.

1) remove bumper
2) remove front fog light blanks/covers (optional - provides space for a helped to hold a flashlight)
3) remove 1x 10mm bolt that connects bumper bracket to headlight mount
4) remove 2x 8mm screws that got straight into the bumper bracket
5) attach bumper, using two screwdrivers in the plastic rivet holes where the grill attaches above the radiator
6) remove 10mm screw on each side at the bottom of the fender liner (easy to find)
7) attach bumper bracket to bumper, and from behind the fender liner, push the bracket up into the fender
8) hand thread 10mm bolt in from underneath through fender liner
9) with a 8mm socket and hand driver (no ratchet), press against bumper bracket to ensure it is seated, then hold bumper with other hand while pressing and screwing 8mm screws into the bumper bracket
10) tighten 10mm bolt with a 10mm wrench
11) reinstall 10mm bolts that attach bottom of fender liner
12) reinstall all the other bumper mounting hardware
13) put a piece of paper against the bottom of the headlight, and use touch up paint brush to touch up the spots where paint got messed up on the bumper from rubbing on the headlight
14) you are done

Oh yeah...and resinstall foglight/blanks.

If you did this right, you can look through the crack between the fender and the bumper and see that it is impossible to push the bumper over it because it is flush or almost flush against the fender.

So if you can't get it back to normal with just taking it off and putting it back on, i'm gonna have to buy the two parts?

cause only the left side is not flush.

Thanks

my fix was remove those brackets by the headlight corner and i actually filed off the tab that was sitting to high until i could click it back in. you can probably file it with it still on the car, but i removed it trying to bend it and bolt it back for clearance but didn't work.

the filing did take out some strength in how the bumper holds on, but its just fine for me never had a problem. my cars lowered and i actually had the bad luck of nipping a curb and i seriously thought my bumper was cracked up and destroyed. but becuase i filed the tabs a bit, the bumper popped out and the bumper was still in one piece.

so im glad i shaved the tabs haha

Had the same problem today after installing some horns. The corner clip closest to the headlight wasn't snapping in. Turns out the bumper side U-shaped clip got bent out of shape trying to reinstall the bumper. I cut the U-shaped piece off so that the bumper would snap in again (since it was broken anyway), but a slightly larger than normal gap remains. It's not a big deal, but it bugs the hell out of me because it's a new car. I'm considering getting in behind with some zip ties to pull things together...

Any suggestions?

I had the same issue after changing out my headlights. Only the d-side corner was not aligned correctly.

Here's what i did. Remove the pins holding the bumper around the wheel and the two on the bottom (only the side that has the issue). I stuck my arm through the wheel well through fender liner with a small flathead and moved the clip low enough for the bumper bracket to clear and ta-da!

This allowed room for the retention clip to loop under the bumper bracket for that flush fit again.

Got the same problem on my XV! I think the way it bolts up is exactly the same. Mine is only not tight toward the top corner where it touches the headlight. I hope this method works. So you basically go in through the wheel well liner and push down on the tab with screwdriver, then with the other hand push the bumper in until it engages?

Having the top corner not super flush is not going to make the bumper wiggle around noticeably on the freeway is it? -_-
