strange long high pitched sound coming from engine/Tea kettle whistle

I have a 2007 subaru wrx with 87,000 miles in it. After a long drive across my state I parked it and turned off the car. There is a high pitched whistling or beep coming from the engine bay, it sounds like that annoying mosquito sound or that ringing in your ear after a loud concert. It's been 10 minutes and its still going on.

No strange smells, no smoke, engine temperature was fine, no obvious signs of something broken.

it seems to be an electrical problem because I unplugged the batter and the sound died away and once I plugged it back in the sound came right back up. Ill take it to my mechanic but the problem is that it won't be until Monday.

I have an 07 2.5i with an aftermarket alarm. I also had this very annoying high pitched whine. I was worried that it had something to do with the alarm, but after reading this thread, I went outside to take a look at the chirp unit. Low and behold, when I unclipped it, the pins were gone, so obviously it was fried. When I prodded at the chirp unit, it was making the same whine that I have been hearing this entire time. I left it unclipped, and taped up the connector. So far the whine has not returned.

yea I've talked to a few people and they told me its my alarm system damaged from the rain so I will try to take a look when I get a chance to
