Default Mitsubishi offers $69/month lease for electric iMiev

... with a $2100 downpayment, or $169/month with the fees rolled in.

Great deal for a secondary commuter car for a family that also has a real vehicle.

Wowzers. Thats a pretty good deal. Doesn't it just cost a couple bucks to charge these? So, if I spend ~$250 a month in gas alone on my current car, driving this car would cost lest than just the cost of fuel.

Thats neat. Makes me want it for my short 10 mile stop and go traffic commute to and from work.

Who cares if its ugly if you are spending less money than you are in fuel alone on your current car? It's like you're putting the miles on this POS for free! And saving money doing it! Drive your nice car when you actually feel like having fun!

Seems like a great deal for an exclusively urban car.

Exclusively urban and for warm weather only. I don't imagine the batteries would have done well in the -3 degree morning we had today. And that's probably warm considering what some other people are dealing with at the moment.

Not only is it ugly but, it cost $32,000? Really, for that dinky ride? For that price wouldnt it be a better deal to go with a regular hybrid?
Gees. No wonder Mitsu fails.

I dont understand the thought process of those that design the body of the car.

Tech developers: Hey we finished all the electrical, frame, etc. Now you guys need to design the body for it

Body guys: Sweet, lets start out by making it as ugly as we possibly can.

I really dont understand why electric and hybrid cars have to look like complete ****. Make them look sleek and sexy and im sure the market for these would be much larger.

No worse than the smart car, but hey...beauty is subjective.

If this deal was offer locally, I might look into it. Most of my daily trips are within 5 miles and on streets where the speed limit is 40mph or less.

It's all about form over function for these electric cars as they need to be as aerodynamic and light as possible so you are going to see very simple, compromised styling. You aren't going to see big grilles, headlights, fender bulges, plastic body cladding at least until the technology improves.

That's the thing: the i isn't a particularly efficient design. It sure isn't aerodynamic, with a Cd of 0.35 (!).

It's a stretched kei car chosen for its cheapness and low weight, and such cars are designed the way they are to skirt taxes in Japan, not for function, per se.

So it's really tall and has no leg room. Are they expecting consumers with very long torsos or big hair?
