Hello,
Wanted to get your thoughts on getting the Alpine SWR-10D2 (sub) and MRX-M110 X (amp). I'm finding it hard to get a amp that can power this <1000 RMS sub @ 2ohms I want to run at 2ohms with a mono amp (no need for more than 1 output).--Or should I get a 2 channel amp at 4ohms and bridge--OR should I get a class D mono like this

I don't have a ton of experience with the Alpine subs but I highly doubt it's going to last very long with a true 1000 watts going to it...seems pretty high for a $260 retail sub. I'm all for having more power than needed (to keep amp gain down & running cooler) but you could probably run a true 600-800 watts and that sub is going to do to do all that it can....just my take on it though. - Todd |

I didn't mean aethetics I meant by specs it looks pretty good. I have a audio integrations enclosure for my 12 hatch so limited on subs, but the alpine looks (specs wise) the best bang for buck (high rms)

Sorry...my bad
I think Alpine makes a great product, I just don't think you need that much power to be an ideal setup for that sub. Maybe somebody with more experience can jump in and give their .02 cents. I haven't had to run 1000 watts to a sub under $500 for quite some time. |

well that amp is surprsingly cheap, so I'd like to have the excess power, besides the sub rates at 1000 and less rms with peak 3000 so I don't want it starving =)
I think I'm going to go with this setup, unless someone has something to say about this combo not working or it being a cheap amp |

Remember all watts aren't created equal! There's a reason why amps rated at the same power outputs may vary greatly in price and its not always due to brand/popular name.
Again not trying to beat up the Hifonics amp...I haven't seen one in a system for years but in general you usually get what you pay for. |

I've spent some time selling consumer electronics, and the only thing that concerns me about this combo is that the Alpine SWR-10D2 is incredibly inefficient, only outputting 82 db at 1 watt/m. Most other high end 10" subs are in the 94 db range meaning that they will be 8-9 times louder with the same power. I don't have any experience with the Hifonics brand, but I would assume that they would perform like any run of the mill class D amp. Look for a high current output amp (class A/B) to drive the subwoofer better (louder), even if the wattage is lower, it's the current which moves the voice coil, not watts.

If you can see my attached quote I went with an alpine amp. As far as the db/watt raiting its too late now, items in shipping and will be put in on Friday. I'm not giving up faith, Alpine is a strong brand in the audio industry(unless you buy their type e subs! lol bad story). I will update friday afternoon when the installation is complete! Also giving a full review on sound. Thanks for the input |
