I think it's a pretty good value for what I paid. Insurance is nothing, and it's very inexpensive to own. Mileage suffers slightly from is taller profile, and I usually have a roof rack mounted. I really don't care honestly, I knew what I bought and didn't expect gold. It's been a great car thus far and I really don't plan on keeping it for more than 3 years. I have no regrets buying it. Going from a heavy WRX with ****ty gas mileage to this was easy. I'm past that age where I have any interest in modding my DD. I have a 68 Camaro that I can dick around with now and more money to do so. To each their own.

Ah, the two car solution to the problem.

Well done Dex. I happen to be a fan of your solution. When your daily driver is not asked to be an autocross monster, drag racer, track toy, grocery getter, family hauler, etc. What you will always have is a compromise of some kind. Some greater than others.

Having a livable fun daily driver that is not a track beast is easier to stomach, when you have the real toy sitting in the garage next to it!

Default Hyundai and Kia set aside $412 million for false mileage claims

Autoblog: http://www.autoblog.com/2013/01/25/h...ileage-claims/

Quote:
We still don't know how the whole fuel economy ratings debacle is going to play out for Hyundai and Kia, but both automakers are preparing to make good on their promises to reimburse vehicle owners for lower-than-promised mileage figures. According to Automotive News, Hyundai and Kia have set aside a combined total of $412 million ($225 million for Hyundai and $187 million for Kia) as compensation, which will be sent out on a case-by-case basis via debit cards depending on the vehicle and the mileage driven.

Announced back in November, the exaggerated miles per gallon claims affect around 900,000 Kia and Hyundai products produced for the 2011 through 2013 model years sold in the US and Canada. This whole deal has had plenty of action ranging from suspected whistleblowing from a rival US automaker and even insider trading, but it has probably been most frustrating for vehicle owners who, in most cases, saw their vehicles' city and highway ratings drop between one and three digits.

I wonder how the 2012 Impreza is doing with its MPG claims in the real world?

I'll have you know that I drove a broken-in 2012 Impreza for a week and it got the rated MPG, even after corrections. The MPG meter does read several MPG positive for sure.

Though many consumers have been pleased with the MPG's overall ratings for this car have been extremely poor and way under what is advertised IMO and from what I have seen

I think that EPA ratings/tests should be done in the winter, on winter gas, driving on snow/ice and at the average speed that someone drives is such weather.

That way, when it's winter, and the MPGs go even further south, it seems normal. When you're in a warmer area, or don't get winter gas, or both, then the MPGs would be fantastic.

Is this only if you are the original owner? I picked up a 2011 elantra in November of 2011 with 11k miles on it. I now have about 50k and never saw more than 33mpg and my commute was 120 miles round trip with 95% on the highway.
