So i had a thought last night and I got to working on an animation that plays everytime I start my car. I set up tasker to play a video that I made so it appears as if the Nexus 7 is booting up when the car starts.
Here is a screenshot of the animation. ![]() |

I didn't read through all the pages in this thread, but I thought I'd mention.. For those of you who are retrofitting 12V sockets and using car chargers as charging options but have the issue of the limitation of charging amperage, if you short the two data pins (solder works best) on the charger Android devices will recognize the charger as AC, and will allow for more current. The data pins are the two middle pins on the typical USB A plugs/outlets.

Charging is now at close to 900mA under heavy usage. Not to mention the benefits of running a 5 port hub. Zedix. Have you seen that other guy, that made the sweet plexiglass backing + reusing a holding case. |

The bootloader fix worked perfectly, once it detected USB power it took care of the reboot process. |

Found this for those of us who are waiting for something with an external sd card (although I hear samsung is cancelling their plans on another 7") and use spotify (since those ass hats took away our external sd storage option about a year ago)

checked out the Samsung galaxy Tab 7" at Costco for like $185 for the 8GB version. no additional charging port, but had a microSD slot for storage and the profile appears to be nearly identical to the Nexus7. that's a cheaper option and entry price for those of you thinking about doing this. microSD cards a much cheaper option than the Kingston Wi-Drive that I bought to expand my storage.
sidebar - ordered BT OBD2 adapter, 1ft microUSB right angle cable (to help with charging) and also going to have a high amperage cigarette lighter adapter ready to be wired in should the need arise. since i haven't totally nailed down the mounting yet, i may also yank the wiring harness that i did and clean up the connections now that i have sleeving and an assortment of heat shrink tubing, make it a little cleaner in there. also returning my 32GB Wi-Drive and have a 128GB one on the way. |

128GB Wi-Drive received and up and running. 32GB returned. 1ft Star-Tech right angle Micro-USB received and charging MUCH better now. Also threw a screen protector/anti-glare filter/anti-smudge cover on the screen. looks MUCH better than the glossy finish, and is going to be great for this application of the Nexus 7.
Also got a micro ELM 327 adapter and downloaded Torque. Should be pretty nice! |

I found a deal on a Lenovo Thinkpad A1. Cool thing is it has an fm tuner built in. Bonus. I will relocate factory nav headunit (not very fond of it, or satellite radio) and run tablet audio to it. I will pair my phone with tab and factory unit so calls come through, and so the interwebs are shared. Already have Torque Pro set up with the obdii dongle.
software and solutions to find: -good main ui. seen several around. KITT? probably -how does fm tuner work on that thing? -write macros if needed to automate all the wireless handshakes required. -upgrade tab to 4.0x or cm7, mainly for better voice recognition/root. always on voice rec? -pair sixaxis controller and setup some games, mainly to impress brother -keyboard? dammit. do I need a keyboard in my car now? probably not... use phone as mini keyboard? that would be cool -hey! I can use that traffic/camera/radar database now! sweet! -it would be great to have a map/traffic/weather overlay going on -set up rss feeds for weather and aggregate podcasts for the morning commute -how bout use my wifi outside the house to grab feeds to cut down phone data usage -app to let tab place calls on phone -setup Five Guys app. sweet pipe dreams: -wireless charging mat for phone. theoretically possible. seen a diy -wireless (hell, wired) openport interface. flash different tunes from the car! that'd be schweet -wireless cam? be great to use the video/telemetry record on Torque. phone's camera on windshield mount? -peep cams on bumpers -drive car from phone/sixaxis -50 more torqs |
