Default 2011 wrx overboost with ap ots stage 2

So I was on the way home tonight cruising in 5th gear, downshifted into 4th then 3rd and gave it a boot full. Normally the car hits target boost around 17psi +- a little. However this time it spiked at 20psi around 5500 rpm, then hit what sounded like a rev limiter, then it lost power. I looked down and the whole dash was lit up. CEL, Traction control and flashing cruise light. I checked the code and it was a turbo/waste gate (A) solenoid (parameter/performance) code. I was thinking maybe the solenoid is going bad and the waste gate is staying closed? I'm not sure. Also after the event I noticed the car building boost ALOT quicker than it used to. Any ideas/ thoughts/ help would be awesome. Thanks guys!

Car is running Cobb OTS stage 2 AEM 93, Full Invidia TBE and AEM CAI.

I think what you are experiencing boost creep. But what you need to do is a 3rd gear pull from around 2000rpm if you can do so safely.

I would def pull a log. Could just be a freak boost spike. Won't realize without more info.

As I understand it "boost spike" can occur when a car will hit peak boost. For example if his peak boost was 17psi and he hit 20 psi at 3800 rpm this would be a boost spike. Boost creep is when boost isn't tapering down to 14.5 psi for example. Boost creep occurres when the waste gate cannot pass enough exhaust through it. This causes boost to increase as rpm's increase.

You hit the overboost protection measure which enables fuel cut and disabled boost control. First thing you'll want to do is to download the super low wastegate (SLWG) version of your map from the maps section at cobbtuning.com. Then use the Accessport Manager software to transfer the downloaded map from your computer to the Accessport. Then reflash the new map to the car using the "Tune" -> "Change Maps" menu option.

Once you've completed that, try to get a data log as outlined in the video below (if you can do so safely). You can post the log up on google docs (make sure to set the permissions to public) and post the link here.

You're the man Bill! I'll get it done as soon as I can. Only thing I was really confused on is I had been running the same tune for almost a year with no probs. But I did move recently and the air is a lot colder here. Not sure. I'll post the data up tonight or tomorrow morning.

The SLWG run doesn't look like the SWLG map. Can you go to "Tune" -> "Show Current Map" on Accessport and report back what exact map name is shown in the reflash and what exact map name is shown in the realtime slot?

Will do, I won't be able to check until Friday though. Left the car in the garage and I'm on duty for two days. I'll be back then. Thanks.

Ok this should be the right one. I didnt do a full reflash the first time, it was just the realtime.

Can you check the exact map names in the reflash and realtime slots as it sits with this log? I need the full name, including the version number.

Yes - that shows you are still on the normal wastegate map. The super-low wastegate will have "SLWG" in the map name (at end). You'll want to get the SLWG map and reflash it to the car and then confirm that your reflash and realtime slots show SLWG in the map names. Then get an additional log.

crap sorry forgot to add that part, it was in the next line where is starts all the verbage details about the map. It does say SLWG so it reads (Stage2+AEM93 MT v310 SLWG).
Sorry for the confusion.

No problem. The previous two logs (and this most current one) do actually jive with the SLWG map (had been looking at the incorrect map before when comparing). In those logs, boost is not tapering at higher RPM as much as it should (based on the target that the ECU wants to run). The last log you put up - it isn't as severe. Presumably, that last log was done with warmer outside temps.

If you can do so safely, try to get some additional logs (of SLWG map) but add the "Inj. Duty Cycle" and "Intake Temp." monitors to the log (nothing else). You can do this by going to "Monitor" -> "Set Data Log List" and checking those two parameters. If you can get logs when it is colder out as well, that would be a good comparison.

Roger that. I will do so when I can, perhaps this evening. We've been having some crazy weather here in Maryland the last few days, it was 70 on Tuesday and here we are on Friday and there is 3 inches of snow on the ground. I'll do what I can to get this done tonight. Thanks Bill.
