OMGHi2U new to the subaru scene

Hello everyone,

As the title says I'm new to the subaru world and thought I'd say hi. I'm not new to wrenching on cars or to car forums (previously hyphe36 on bmw forums, mainly bimmerfest) so with a little luck I'll exist here without upsetting the rules and/or any members.

I was just gifted my mothers 1998 impreza L sedan, with 216k miles (luckily she picked it up from a subaru dealer used with 10k, so I know the whole history of the car ). It lived the majority of its life in the Sierra Nevada mountains and saw many snowy winters, its lived a good life for subaru The car, despite the high mileage, has been well maintained under the hood, my mother always took it in for oil changes, as needed repairs, and the mileage respective tune ups. She wasn't very good about preventative maintenance but the car made it through to its current state anyways. The interior and exterior were pretty neglected, but not anymore.

Upon getting the car, which I call Gratch, I spent forever cleaning the years of mountain life off it and out of its interior, trunk, engine bay, rain gutters, etc. Since then I've started to do thorough and preventative maintenance, changing all the oils (engine, transmission, differentials) and fluids (coolant, ps, brake, washer lol) as well as filters (fuel, air intake and cabin ). Next paycheck will be plugs and wires, upgrading the grounds, new rotors and pads and maybe lines, and trying to find a clock spring to fix my airbag light and non working horn issue.

I plan on making this a fun to drive, reliable, daily driver. I'll be starting to upgrade the suspension (h&r/kyb agx combo, 20ish mm front and rear sways, front and rear struts, new bushings, lighter wheels, and whatever spacers will be needed to kill remaining gap) and the exhaust system (maybe hybrid intake, might leave alone after all I've read, single port uel headers from infernolab, hfc, and a catback, hopefully a good used stromung or something similar for the deepness). Possible interior swap should a good black interior become available (mine is brown/tan and seats are in pretty bad shape from sun cracking) and audio upgrades (deck, speakers, mild sub, big subs... been there done that lol). For the exterior I just want a nice clean look, I'll probably throw some mud flaps on it since it still sees winters, and a cargo basket/roof rack since I love to camp and camp like a king. Should a good deal on a rs/obs hood pop up I'll take it, same with an rs bumper (need fogs! San Francisco haha).

Well, thats me and my subaru - past present and future - in a nutshell. Look forward to getting to know the subaru world.

Cheers!

P.s. I'll post pics when I get my computer back, doing this all from my phone haha.

I dont know why mothers 98 is a link lol, or Sierra Nevada (though that makes more sense)

Navendra94 - Yeah Gratch is a tough little ride thanks for the welcome!

Yellow01tj - I've joined iclub, rs25, and NASOIC. I've already done tons of research for my various issues and between the three found nearly everything I need to know, with the vast majority of that information coming from here. Good luck with your engine swap/replacement and tracking down the proper information. Local meets are a great place to possibly meet people and get live feedback from those who have done what you are looking to do.
