you still have to have the maf sensor somewhere in the piping, otherwise it wont run.

Yes this is true. The car needs the maf as it uses the maf below the OFL cross over point.

IIRC you can set the OLF cutover point to 0 tps. Thus, this would mean (I am speculating here) you will not need a MAF to run the car, but a IAT is necessary, and with suby they come with the maf.

It all depends on what other mods you have, how good your gas is, what elevation you are at, and what dyno you are on. As well as how good the tune is.

i just did some major upgrades to my car and i'm running UTEC, now i have to get it tuned but i'm afraid to drive the car to the tuner cause its so different i.e. went from sti pink injectors (565cc?) to deatchwerks 850cc and a vf34 to a fp Green, also running a 70mm cold air intake as opposed to the stock size of 65mm. Any reccomendations? anyway i can get like a basic map and parameters? i'm running the latest version of utec

Wowwee, you weren't kidding around, were you?
The good news is that if you can get your car to start, it will be running rich. The turbo choice should not matter unless you get out of manifold vacuum, so keep the load off and have a light foot.

The problem is going to be your MAP readings with that wider cross-section intake. It is not a simple scalar or multiplier issue like the injectors are.

My best guess would be to look for people who have used the APS CAI in the old days when they were maxing out the 5v limit on the stock MAP sensor. They got around it by going with the larger diameter pipe and had to recalculate all the fueling curves. There might be an early version UTEC map in the Ausie forums where they had time to work that issue.

If I were in your position, I would start with a parameter set for running the pink injectors. Lower the injector scaling in steps of 10% or so until the car can start. Then up the idle. Running rich is going to be less bad than running lean. If you are just driving 10 miles or so to the tuner, let them deal with it. More than that the cats(?) and plugs will start growing bad gunk.

A local race team and tuner is having a problem tuning my car. he said the 1150 cc injectors are not large enough to give the motor enough fuel. well you could keep the DW 1150 and bump your pressure from 43.5 to 85psi and you could flow just over 1600cc. Not sure if this is the best way to go but it would work. Maybe someone else can chime in here with more experience.

A good thread to look into about big injectors and raising fuel pressure:http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1702099

i have a utec in my 02 wrx. mods are big MAF 18g turbo tgv deletes turbo xs TBE and some uppipe.

With out the utec my car wont even idle (too lean).is this normal? im assuming it because of the big maf. so i have my 0% column on about 25. is that normal?

Its normal that your car wont run without the UTEC with your big MAF.

thanks alot man

only other question i have is how do u go about doing fuel trim with a obd2. all they have is freeze frame and for that to work you have to throw a cel. ive been pulling my idle sensor off but i no there has to be a better way.

Second time I searched I found it on here

i might of figured it out. i have stock modified injectors and perrin fuels rails but im still using the stock fuel pump? i think when i turn the car off because of the lower pressure some fuel might drip into the engine. when i let it sit for like 5 mins it starts up fine. like the fuel drys up.

im pretty sure it said u need a bigger fuel pump for stock modified injectors.

have you logged you ST & LT fuel trims to set up the idle for the bigger injectors?

that is a good question

i've tuned a UTEC on 4 cars and I love what it can do myself I would go with a stock ECU & utec talk to Mick the ginge on the utec opensource combo

Default UTEC error

Hello fellow suby owners!

I recently purchased an 02 WRX (with v7 STI swap) and a TurboXS Utec piggyback computer. When I start the car the UTEC counts down, flashes "gAS" then goes to "Err". I suspect that maybe the O2 sensor?? isn't connected and/or reading properly?

Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting? I am able to upload maps and change them on the fly with the remote switch...though I suspect the error will hinder my tracking and logging abilities.

Thanks all!
Eli
