How to properly match a TMIC?
I understand each intercooler has different airflow capacities ranging from 1000CFM to 400 CFM or so. My question, is whether it is wise to go with the biggest? Or to match the airflow of the intercooler to the turbo that you would be using? Ie, so as long as the intercooler flows more air than the turbo, the cooling capacity is pretty much similar.

Well.. Here is what i think.
How much does the turbo flow, at what psi does it reach that? Are you going to stick to that psi or try going higher?
Best choice choose something alittle bigger then goals, that way it gives you room to play with and also if you ever upgrade turbo, intercooler wont be a problem.
I cant answer the question thou, just post on newb section for more responses or just speak to your tuner. Good luck.
Edit, also what heads do you have? Do you know how much they flow? What rpms you are aiming for full cfm of said turbo, how much heat it produced, is their a graph of said so turbo. Any exhaust restrictions.
Alot comes into this area.
I believe most people just pick a intercooler based on whp goals.
Additional info, if you are worried on cooling capability, make a custom intercooler sprayer cheaply with advance auto part store parts. 40-50 dollars should do the trick. All topmounts will suffer from heat soak.

the larger the tmic, increase in cooling capacity.
as long as it is a "good" one.
my esx tmic is the largest one by volume i have come across in the many years.
the spearco timc has a flow rating of 1000 cfm.
but what good is it if has a "X" flow rating if it can not cool the intake
I suggest a reputable or proven tmic before you spend you hard earned money.
bar plate is better than tube fin. but after you do your homework you will
find that bar plate exceeds tube fin.
i run a vf30 which flows around 385 cfm and my tmic flow considerably more than
what my turbo can push out.
bigger is better in case of tmic..
but i am going to air/water cooled in the near future
