I'm sure ice played a factor in this situation, lol.

Is it bad I was hoping the firetruck was gonna go down the hill? Sorry OP to hear about the scratches, at least it wasn't worse.

The rear bumper cover comes unpainted, one piece all the way to the bottom of the diffuser.

Any decent body shop should be able to replace & paint the bumper cover to match so well it takes you several minutes to find some evidence it isn't factory. IIRC, it's a $5 - $600 sort of job.

We've already had the rear bumper done on my wife's 2011 wrx hatch. Tagged at a red light by an (ahem) "inattentive" (i.e. pot smoking) driver in a 1 ton company pickemup truck at quittin' time. He was nice about it (which is the only smart thing he did that day) & we had no hassles other than time lost getting the car fixed.

I bought my 04 without a scratch, and 2 weeks later I was rear-ended by a 16-year-old girl that hit me because she was texting. I found a good shop, and everything was fixed good as new. WRB isn't too hard to match if you get a good shop, and they can blend paint well. Best of luck with your repair.

Funny video, but that was not from last week. I knew I saw it at least 2 winters ago, and the clip was uploaded to YouTube in 2010.

Over summer, I had some kids randomly throw full beer bottles at my house and scoob. Heard something maybe fall in the garage, then went outside to find the bottle that hit the garage door. The one that hit the car must have hit the ground first (cap was majorly dented), then hit the headlight square on (glass, GF4).. and didn't leave a mark.

... Luck. They could have thrown it straight at the windshield.

BEST PART ABOUT THIS WHOLE THING (lol): I live on a dead end street and the cops always drive up to lock the gate to the baseball field up top, so the cop was up there locking it at the time. A car was coming down the street filled with kids, so I stood out and stopped it by standing in the street. Another cop was coming up the street right at this moment as one of my neighbors had already called a noise complaint in since the kids were partying at the ballfield.

They're boxed in, right?... wrong. When I motioned for the cop to stop, the kids drove around me quickly and down the street. The cop said he thought I was saying goodbye to my friends...... and didn't do anything. EVEN THOUGH HE WAS SENT THERE LOOKING FOR A CAR EXACTLY LIKE THAT ONE. Really.

They never caught them. Our police force around here sucks. All in all, no damage to the car, no dent on the garage door.. just had to clean up the glass.

This happened to me in mid-december:

A girl backed out of a driveway and into my bumper. She left contact info, though, which was awesome.

In the end I got a new bumper and fender, and the shop resprayed the whole hood, existing fender, and blended the doors.

They did a great job considering how tough SWP is to match.

Was at mall parked. I came out to my door smashed in. had security look at cameras. Person turned into parking spot right next to me wide and ran into my door. Then took off. Couldn't see plates tho. Too dark. :-(

Talk about ppl who can't drive in the snow! Last winter I went to dig out my WRX. I found out I was a victim of a hit and run after clearing the snow. Found deep, long scratches on the left corner of my bumper and a broken left tail light.
Bought a new tail light and applied some touch up paint in the scratches.
The disadvantages of street parking.

Sorry to hear about your luck, but a buddy I work with has even worse luck then you. His 2011 STi has gotten hit parked in his apartment complex lot twice within a 3 month period. When I say hit, I mean replacing quarter panels hit! The first time was a hit and run where the idiot hit the truck parked next to him so hard that it pushed the truck into his car. The second time some kid just flat out plowed into it, but at least he stopped and called the police. So that's at least a glimmer of hope for society.

I went grocery shopping. Noticed a dent in the rear panel lined up perfectly with the car parked next to me. Decided to wait for the person, went to the bathroom really quick. Came outside, guy is loading groceries, wife has the door grinding into my car with her butt as she is putting her kid in the baby seat.

I tell the guy I need to get that touched up, throw me $50 (full repair is more like $150). Wife gets FURIOUS, accuses me of extortion and calls me a fool. Husband calls me a fool. They say no.

I fake calling the police with my cell phone to try and get him to do the right thing. They drive away. I stand there, pretty much nothing I can do. Really don't want to report a hit and run and deal with NYC cops over a dent, albeit a scratchy dent.

That is the reason that I park out in the empty part of the parking lot. So far, it has saved me from door dings, but I know its only a matter of time before someone gets me. People are simply inconsiderate aholes.

Luckily for me, we americans are fat and lazy, and I park as far out as possible. Usually the only cars that park near me are other nice cars owned by guys doing the same as me .... We try to protect each other lol.
