Question Help! Removal of Climate Controls

Okay, so I've searched everywhere for how to remove my climate controls on my 2004 WRX and I'm pretty new to this. ANYWAY, I apologize in advance if I have posted this in the wrong section! So, the previous owner had spilt pop on the cup holder and it managed to make its way down into the climate controls. I noticed that the controls are quite stiff and sticky to move. So I was wondering how in the world do you disconnect this so I can take it out to clean it. I've been stumped for a bit trying to figure it out and I'm trying to manage not to mess anything up! Here are some pictures to show you what I mean. Thank-you!
