Air Pump / Air Valve 2600$ Repair ?

Hi,

My car is at the dealer and I have a check engine light,

Subaru email me this morning they said that I need :

air valve: valve bank 1 (14864aa030) $395.52
valve bank 2 (14864aa020) $395.52
pump (14828aa030) $923.68

plus 680$ of labor.

what are those valves for ?

Do I have an other option ?

I think 2600$ for that repair is Just ridiculous !

yes I read about the air pump but nobody talk about the air valve ?

It seems they can't diagnose which one of those parts is broken so they're going to replace all 3. seems like a waste of money to me.

I'm quite confident that you could fine a tuner shop to remove the system from your car and turn of the check engine light permanently for much less. ($700 would be my guess)

The of catch is that if your car is an 07, the atmospheric pressure sensor is in the valve that has the 6 pin plug. That's the only thing you need to function properly.

And for what it's worth, I removed those parts from my car years ago

(and from what I think I know about the system, those parts are only active during the first 30 seconds after startup. They're supposed to pump air into the exhaust and heat up the catalitic converters faster.)

Correct, which is completely irrelevant and unnecessary if you go catless like the majority of people do. OP, tell the stealership to kindly **** off, take your car to a decent indy shop, have them delete your air pump and all associated components, be happy with the money that you save! I always get a kick out of repair quotes. $700 in labor? Christ, what rock have I been hiding under.
