Default turbo crossmember in a non turbo car?

I know it doesn't work the other way around, but can anyone confirm if the turbo crossmember from an 04 wrx will play nice with the stock 00 RS engine/exhuast? My steering rack is in bad shape, and I have a good steering rack sitting in my donor car. I would like to try swapping the front knuckles/suspensions/arms/rack/ x-member over to my RS, but I want to be sure I won't get stuck halfway through the swap. So if you have seen an NA motor sitting in a turbo crossmember, please let me know.

Won't work. The exhaust and swaybar won't fit.

FWIW I am running the tribeca front bar, which I have read can be made to work in the wrx. I also have the wrx front bar. At that point, the exhaust is the limiting factor. I assume it's because the RS exhaust runs straight back where the WRX runs across the front of the engine. Meh..

I know this is ancient history, but in case you haven't figured it out by now (or if someone comes across the same scenario) You can run a turbo crossmember in a NA car with a borla (or replica) header. You will need to use a turbo swaybar as well though. There is also a larger clearance on the turbo crossmember for the control arms on certain vehicles that can be corrected with washers. Lastly, as far as your rack goes, you may have an issue with the column mating to the splined shaft on the WRX rack. I am not certain about the 00 RS, but I know my Forester has a different spline count column than a WRX column, and would require me to use a WRX column (at least that is the easiest alternative).

By the way, if anyone is curious why I replied to this thread, it came up in the "suggested posts" window when I was posting my WTB thread. I figured maybe I could help someone out if the same post came up in their search.

Thanks. As for an update, I went ahead and swapped all of the mechanicals over.

As for the steering compatibility, L&E Fabrications makes an adapter linkage, or as in my case, the RS pinion fits in the WRX rack.
