Default 5 speed, what years work...

What year WRXs can I take a trans from that would be a direct swap for my 02 WRX 5speed POS. My gears broke amongst other things.

I believe any 02-07 wrx 5 speed will be a direct replacement. With that said the newer the trans the stronger the gears are. For example a 05 wrx trans will have stronger gears than a 02 wrx trans.

02 and 03 I believe will swap in with your existing axles. 04 and 05 use different axles, you can still swap it but you'll need the matching axles. There are other differences on the newer models, 06 forward, that can be overcome to install on your 02. That said, you posted in the wrong section, there is a transmission dedicated section, search there.

^WRONG!

Both of you need to read the TRANSMISSION FAQ's!

Hint: All 5MT's are NOT created equally! Might want to learn about the different center diff ratio.

Happy reading!

Edit: you beat me rodman :-/

the 02-05 are swappable. The 06-07 needs more work. Also, the axle stubs change mid 03.

Read the FAQ as there a bunch of little things and if you are in there, why not address other issues

Is there any major difference as far as internals on the 05 as opposed to the 02 besides wider gears?
