Regular cigarette power kit = Camera is on when the car is on only.
24/7 Power kit = Camera will stay on when the car is on or off. ie: Park mode.
Correct! The only reason for a 24/7 Power Kit is if you don't want to hard-wire the unit to a constant power supply. Most cigarette lighter outlets today are shut off when the key is turned off.

My BlackVue is hard-wired and, when I forget, has been on for 7 days without any discernible issues when starting the car. I normally unplug it when parked in the garage; I don't drive everyday.

Any drain on the battery will eventually discharge it to dead. By the time a camera shuts down due to low voltage, somewhere around 7v, your car isn't going to start. If you leave your car parked for days then maybe one of these 24/7 power kits is for you as they die instead of your car battery.

If you drive every day and have a decent battery hard wire it and relax....

I'm using a F70 Dual Lens DVR for my Impreza. It has 2 separate cameras so one is attached to my front windshield and the other is on the back. The quality is decent and it hasn't failed me yet (2 month). It's 720p for the front and 640p for the back. Night shots are OK.

Here is the link for more spec. http://forums.carcamcentral.com/showthread.php?tid=47

I bought mine off ebay for 60 dollars but be careful of the seller's rating. I had to get my money back from one of the buyer through eBay protection guarantee. They sent me the wrong cheaper cameras.

I like the idea of a back looking cam. Upgrade in future.

Here's my latest indecent. Some clown distracted me, he swung that stick at the truck then me, and I almost rear ended the guy in front of me. Glad I have a cam if needed.... Pic of clown below along with the clip. There's more but you get the idea. Caution language...

Holy crap I'd have been livid.

I've got a $30 dash-cam off ebay. Can't see plates too well, but even in a bad situation I'll find myself just yelling the plates out to the camera so it records me physically stating the plate.

The $30's has paid itself off already.

I can't read the plates on the cars if they are moving.

I used my phone with the dailyroads app. Works fine but I'd like to get something I can leave in all the time.
