Has anyone done this on an '07 STi? I'm curious to know if wiring is setup the same.

I went to go do this mod the other day, then I realized the previous owner had already done it! It's pretty sweet

Insane_One! Thank you for taking the time to actually take pictures of this and post it... I hated how I couldn't control when I turned on and off my fog lights and you actually took the time to make it easy for me. I did this last night in like 40 minutes and I'm glad I did because I now know that my HID's will last a little longer. Thanks again Insane_One.

Am i doing this right???
Everything works, and I can run the car like this,

But only if the E-brake is up, as soon as I put it down, the low beams comes on automatically, and if I turn the knob to on they get a little brighter but if I turn it to running lights they just stay on anyway until I pull the e-brake then they turn off and I can sit there with nothing but fogs and parking lights...

Did I mess something up?? Or is it impossible to actually DRIVE with nothing but the fog lights and parking lights.

(I am assuming those tiny lights in the top corners are parking lights)

seeing as the GRs are 2005-2009 legacy based i would think that the legacy IFL mod would work on them. I had an 06 legacy and did it. My fog light switch was on the stalk like you say the GRs are!

here is a legacy one. not the one i did back in the day but its one. im not sure if the GRs are the same but they may be. Hope it helps

Lol forgive me but, I'm still a little confused. Based on what you told me, here is my assumption:

Get to the back of the relay.
Black and Green gets cut.
*What fuse exactly do I "tap" into?*
*What is a "vampire clip"?
*What do you mean by "tap" into the Purple and Yellow? Also, are these two separate wires?*

just tried this on my 05 sti. didnt work. The only thing I see different is the red/green stripe white on the back of the relay is red/blue stripe on mine... did i cut the wrong one? (not too worried, I'm good at soldering etc) but theres no other red wire coming out of that relay on mine...

tapped orange wire..

only red wire on relay.. red/blue stripe:

anyone have any insight?
I thought the mod would be easy following the OP directions, however, i understand these cars all vary a little bit depending on year model etc. looking at the OP pictures. where the red/green stripe wire is, i have a white blue stripe wire coming out, not close to red green... should I have spliced that one instead? I made the mistake of not following the pinout and going by color... any clarification would be great.

Would love to get the mod done while the dash is apart..

When i did this on my 04 wrx, the wires were exactly as described in the OP. Red wire with green strip connected to the orange

thanks, but that doesn't really help as I mentioned, my wires are not the same, the only red wire i have coming from the relay is red with blue stripe, and it looks like a different pinout than where the OP posted the red/green wire was.

you want whatever wire comes out of the fog relay across the coil because what you're essentially doing is giving that relay a low voltage load from the orange wire to read as if it was getting that low voltage ground through the high beams.

i'm pretty sure you got the right one but maybe find a pin diagram for your year to make sure? or just test it. i think the worst thing that would happen is you fry your fog relay.

i just did this today so i can use my relay harness without that ****ing stupid ghost highbeam issue. put it off for years because i'd much rather have figured out the relay harness, but a 6ohm resistor is more expensive than just doing this mod.
hid and fog lights are now a go.

I remember reading about this mod in Sport Compact Car magazine back in the day. I tested it immediatly on a friend's bugeye 2.5RS and eventually got around to mine.

I LOVE this mod and I haven't had a single issue with it for the last decade.

THIS MOD IS A MUST!!!

Yes it's something I want to get done.. Would love some help as my wires don't include a red/green stripe. Only red/blue stripe looking like a different pinout. Help anyone?
