Default Sell my fxt for a bugeye? am I just crazy or what?

So as the title states I currently have on 06 FXT 5mt it has the sports front end conversion and is vf39'd with supporting mods. Lately I have been considering selling it for a myriad of other cars but think a bugeye will be the choice if I do sell. Is this crazy talk? My reasoning is I can stash some money away due to the price disparity and two I won't feel bad turning a bugeye into a "track" vehicle later down the road. Not a complete gutted rollcaged but rollbar some weight reduction much stiffer suspension than a somewhat daily driver would have. Currently my car sits in the garage 95% of the time as I drive a work truck everyday and if I do take my car out its only down the street and back. Anyone make this switch? would you? Not that I am looking for someone to make this decision for me but sometimes its easier to talk it out with strangers rather than my wife or friends who aren't into cars at all.

If you have a truck to drive every day then sure why not? You're not really losing out on much by getting rid of the Forester for a bugeye if you don't use it for a daily.

Well I actually had a peanut eye wrx that I sold to buy the forester due to the added utility and space. However, I haven't really used that extra space save a few times. The wife has used it for hauling more stuff than I have haha.

save up and buy a sti, bug eyes are too shifty and need a lot of things to make them track cars. I drive carefully cause I don't want my tranny to explode or any of the diffs to break cause I "stressed" them too much.

+1 on the sti. If its just going to sit in your garage and only be driven on the weekends and as a track car. The sti is more suited for weekend shenanigans (sp?). A bugeye makes a fun everyday driver with a simple stage 2 and some suspension mods, but its no sti on the track. Just my $.02

Seems to be a lot of this going on lately. I would hate to sell it and then regret it and not be able to find another 5mt xt again.

Wouldn't be a bad idea but people want just as much for a clean 2.5rs as they do a clean bugeye around here.

I am extremely jaded to modding on what is considered extreme. This is nothing compared to some of my last cars

Although an sti would be a great starting platform for a track car I most definitely am not paying the 18k-24k delusional people ask for their clapped out econo box with a fancy drivetrain. hell I could almost buy a brand new wrx for the price that some people want for their sti's which would be a better car and it also defeats the purpose of starting with a less expensive car to ruin by making it borderline unstreatable. I do agree though an sti would be ideal.

How is the handling of the FXT compared to the WRX? It seems like the WRX would be more fun to drive in a track setting than the FXT.

For the majority of peoples set ups on the street? not much different at all. I would imagine its very similar to a wrx wagon. The chassis is essentially the same between the two, anything that fits an sti fits a forester minus the struts which you would use wrx or 04 sti fitment. My wrx had slightly less body roll but it was much lower and had less sidewall on the tires.

If you have owned both cars, you know what they both have to offer. It just comes down to personal preference. I would go with the WRX, but that is just my preference based on appearance. You should be sure to get a properly maintained car, so you do not spend all of the money you have left over on fixing things.

I was thinking 15.5-16 but with people asking 12k for an 04 wrx with 90k miles I might have to re-evaluate what the car is really worth. and what I would be keeping on the car.

Ya I know, and they both have their pluses and minuses. Looks its a tossup for me. I am a huge wagon fan but a nice clean wingless bugeye is dead sexy.

nooooo don't do it man. FXT is a gem and it's seriously one of the nicest looking subarus built imo.
