Thanks.

I DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE, BUT IF I HAD TO GUESS I WOULD SAY:
Transmission (you said 2005 STI?) Rear Diff (you need a 3.90 final drive for the 2005 box, but your car should already have this ) Driveshaft (see if an auto DS will work for you) STi Shift linkage (I think the 2008+ chassis requires longer linkage I heard?) "Pull style" slave cylinder "Pull style" clutch kit for STi STi Clutch fork Other than that, your axles should be just fine. But as I said, I'm only speculating. Make sure when you complete the swap you post up what was required so we can all learn! |

I think the swap is not going to work. You are going to run into issues with the speed sensor.
If I'm right you need a different front bell housing for your speed sensor. |

Something interesting just popped into my mind. OP do you want to swap to 5x114 during this ordeal?
Anyway, for those who do not know, on the GH/GE/GR, all 4 corners are hub unit bearings like the front was on the 05+ STI where the bearing and hub and a 'knuckle snout' is sold to you as one item and it just bolts onto the knuckle....no pressing bearings etc. What I'm wondering is if the GE/GH knuckles are identical to the GR knuckles such that all you'd have to do is buy 2 GR front hub unit bearings and 2 GR rear hub unit bearings and they'll just bolt onto your stock knuckles. Then you'd need to do the brakes of course (might need a bracket), but this will eliminate the need for new knuckles and popping 6 ball joints apart. Just a thought. I don't know about this. His speed sensor comes from the ABS right? I'm relatively certain the 08+ cars do not have a VSS in the trans. So he should be able to just leave the 05 STi VSS in the trans to plug the hole and the car will run normally. This is the case with the 08+ sti's at least... where do the 08+ WRX 5MT's get their speed readings, that's the question. If it's from somewhere not involving the transmission, he's good to go then. |

Cool. I was going from the Legacy Spec B tranny swap into a 04 and they had to swap the housings. So if it's the other way around just cap hole and move on. Sweet! So ignore my statement!

Wow! You're the first guy with an STi to ever say that! ![]() Remember, with many of us, the thrill is not in what you can buy, but rather in the build process. Customizing these cars to be unique to your style and needs is what it's all about. He wanted a 6MT in his WRX... so what? Last edited by kpluiten; 02-18-2010 at 12:19 PM. |

I agree, the 6mt is one of the most underrated mods.
It makes the car so much nicer to drive as a daily driver. |

Get a local machine shop to shorten it. (Lengthening is usually more difficult but it is possible.)
There are usually places that do custom work for example for the musclecar crowd but you may have to do a bit of digging in the yellowpages or make a few phonecalls. |

I have found a few drive shaft shops wont touch the subaru part due to the universal joints being non replacable. however, at some point Im sure it would be worth upgrading to a larger u joint and going completely custom. Just my .02..

I've been wanting to do this on my 2012 wrx, I don't trust the duel trans case the wrx's have because you can still shred the synchros, so I want to do a sti swap. what's all the stuff I need exactly, and which year sti trans would you guys recommend? I was thinking the 07, my car is going to end up as a track only car once it's done
