I hope it looks better than that Honda Accord coupe meets Ford Fusion rendering they have above. It may not be retro, but I would bet it will still be muscular.

I'm still cross shopping this with a few other cars as a next purchase when my WRX is paid off in two years. If the only engine option other than the 5.0 is the 2.3L EcoBoost, then I'll probably buy something else. I'm not really interested in a 4-cylinder Mustang and since the current GT is already $31,5xx with no options, it'll be too rich for my blood most likely.

I hope they don't **** this up with the modern styling and we get another Mustang II on our hands... or worse, a new Camero. The current Mustang body style is nothing short of awesome. It's a looker, performer, and reasonably priced. They did well.
I really want a 2013 GT or BOSS, but I really don't want a car payment. So I sit here with my crappy 2000 RS and 2006 money pit (WRX). #Firstworldproblems Last edited by kpluiten; 02-14-2013 at 12:12 PM. |

Lower the hood, add an IRS, and lose about 800lbs, and I'd be happy.

I'm ready for an Evos concept-based Mustang. Not exactly like that, but something similar with more Mustang cues. I'm tired of retro.

It really doesn't seem that retro as it is... In fact it shouldn't even be called retro, it should be called classic. That shape is part of the Mustang DNA. God I hope Ford doesn't throw it all away.
Something a little closer to these renders maybe? ![]() ![]() |

I'm a fan of the current styling too, but Ford has been pretty clear that we should be expecting a substantial departure from it for the next generation. It's one reason I just bought a '13, even though I fully expect the next gen with it's IRS to be a superior performer.
I think the biggest problem with the Evos concept is that it doesn't have classic pony car proportions (ie long hood, compact cabin, short tail), it has sedan-based coupe proportions. That's one of the reasons it looks so Accord-ish (IMO). Its design language translated onto a more Mustang-y shape could be quite nice, for a modern Mustang, IMO. I'm sure there will be enough cues to identify it as a Mustang. It is the only car that Ford doesn't badge as a Ford; so it needs to be instantly recognizable as what it is (just from a PR standpoint). |

That last render isn't bad IMO.
