Default 17 x 8 Wheel OK on a 2012 Legacy?

I own a 2012 Legacy 2.5i, with standard 16 x 6.5" wheels with 48mm offset. I like the look of the WRX 15 spoke 17 x 8" wheel (53mm offset). Here's an image of that wheel.

The part number is 28111FG190 or 191(same item). The best tire size match is a 225-50-17. I am concerned about whether the wider wheel/tire combination will leave adequate clearance between tire and strut at the upper inside corner of the tire. My local Subaru dealer parts manager can't say for sure that it will work. I will have to special order the wheels, and can't return it after a tire has been mounted. 2012 Legacys with stock 17" wheels are either 7 or 7.5" wide, not 8." My local tire dealer is 90% sure it will work, but I need something more solid to go on. Does anyone out there have a photo or know someone who has succesfully tried this combination? Thanks.

They should fit just fine. And I hope to God you're not planning to buy them new from the dealership? They must cost an arm and a leg! Do yourself a favor and shop online and/or check the classifieds here for take-offs.

Default Should work?

Thanks for responding to my post, but you seem more concerned with the price of the wheel rather than the issue of whether it will work. Saying "it should work" is far from hard evidence. I need to see one, or know of someone who has successfully (and without any modification) put that WRX wheel on a 2010-13 Legacy. Or see a CAD drawing or spec showing the clearance between the strut and upper inside corner of an 8" wheel. Thanks. Feel free to email me at: subarunut123@gmail.com

I apologize for trying to help you, and I apologize for not giving you a definitive answer to the question that you could easily answer yourself with a little bit of searching.

Canby, I would try www.TireRack.com and see if they "recommend" that combination for your car.

They may not say, they may say "OK", they may say "No way".

I don't have your car, nor have I done that swap.
