Juts did mine over the weekend and it's awesome. However, I did reprogram the car for the correct code on the new remote and everything chimed and beeped as it was supposed to if it was done right, but my remote doesn't work. I'm thinking maybe when I got it the battery was dead in it or something? So now I have to take it apart to see.... unless anyone has any suggestions?

The chime indicates that you programmed a code to the car. Not necessarily that it was the correct code for the remote you have. There is also the possibility that the remote is non compatible or non working. Where did you get the remote?

The battery for the remote that came with my car (2012 STi) was dead within 7 months. It was my spare, so I never used it.

My buddy did this mod awhile back and bought his off some vendor on ebay, so he got me one from the same guy. I'm going to just open it back up and check the battery/code for the remote and make sure that I did indeed use the right code. So it should be compatible because his worked, assuming the seller's supply is the same.

Most sellers get junked keys/spare parts and put them together to sell. It's a complete crap shoot on eBay. I have gotten so many mislisted or non working ones that I now only get brand new ones from the dealer.

Pics of my remote that doesn't seem to be working.... I've checked the battery - it's good at 3V, programmed it to the number on the remote, so I'm not sure of the problem. The battery says on it CR1620 3V, which is what it says it needs.

As I said in the e-mail, it's probably the wrong remote. It's impossible to tell what you're going to get when you go through eBay. I have gone to purchasing all of my remotes directly from the dealer, because there are just way too many incorrect ones when you go used.

Looks like it should be the right remote but you never know when buying used. I'd try a new battery if you can, sometimes measuring voltage with no load via a DVM isn't going to tell you if it is done.

Also it sounds like you have the programming right, but always good make sure. The door locks will activate lock/unlock at the end of the process, if they don't you didn't get it, you'll still get beeping either way.

I'm going to try to re-program it today and see what happens. I have noticed that it hasn't lock/unlocked after I have done the programming both times so I need to figure out what the problem is there.

Problem found.

I would suggest updating the OP in step 3 for programming.
3. Perform the following steps within 45 seconds.
(1) Open and close the driver’s door once.
(2) Insert the key into the ignition switch, then turn it from the “LOCK” position to the “ON” position 10 times within 10 seconds (must be done very quickly).
NOTE: When you complete step (2), an electronic tone will sound once.

Once you turn it from Lock to ON 10 times, I had to take if off of ON to get the little chime to start beeping, then just put it back to ON. All the other times I programmed it I guess it wasn't in the ON position so it couldn't do the autolock feature at the end and I guess thats what threw everything off. Maybe this is trivial for some people, but I am not a programmer so I didn't know this. Luckily I found that on like the 4th page that it had to be in the ON position, it would just make it easier if that was in the OP.
Otherwise, now I'm happy and it works great. My battery was good, the remote works, just user error.

This is awesome, can't wait to try this. Before my Wrx I had a 2013 legacy but sadly got in a wreck with a brand new driver (16 year old). All his fault not mine by the way!

Planning to use the key to my 2013 legacy as the swap, hope all goes well..

Theoretically yes, but if you read the thread, you'll note that xluben is now buying all of his legacy keys through the dealerships. It's the only way you'll get the exact key you need.

Be very careful with ebay used keys ESPECIALLY if they have new blades. The ebay sellers assume that the FCC ID means compatible but it doesn't, when the key doesn't work you have little proof that they sold you the wrong remote...

That key could be a 2012 impreza remote with a high security blade.

Yep, especially with a photo of just one key (and it is probably just a photo they pulled off the web) and multiple keys for sale. It's really just a random shot if you'll get the right thing. After numerous issues I have found that it's just not worth it, and get all my Legacy remotes new from the dealer.

Yeah that should be good. Since you have the key, go ahead and give it a try programming right now and see if it works!

Look at the first page, it shows you which parts you need and the step by step tutorial.

ok so i've read at least 7 or 8 pages of this thread hoping to find an answer and haven't yet. How do I do this mod for my 2010 wrx? I know the key will work I'm just wondering about the fob being programmed to my car. The link in the first post doesn't go to a thread anymore.

I responded back to your e-mail with a link to the parts.

The link works for me. You need to swap in the remote module inside the car, as well as all new remotes.
