Cool Competition Clutch Stage 3 Review GVB

So recently I had my clutch replaced, my stock clutch was still ok, but for the upgrades I have and will be making in the future I wanted get the clutch out the way. In the past I have had Exedy stage one in my old Integra, and a Competition clutch stage 4 in my old civic. I like the Exedy but with their limited line up its hard to find a clutch just right for my application. I loved the Comp stage 4 in the civic. Pedal feel was great and the clutch hooked like an on/off switch. Now that I have a STi that is fairly new I wanted to keep pedal feel reasonable, and have some good bite from the clutch. Plus since I like to auto x and track the car I need something that wouldn’t start slipping, and not feel like moving a ton of bricks when disengaging. So I went with Comp clutch again, I opted for a stage 3, due to the fact that itis a full face with segmented Cerametallic compound, and a Heavy Duty pressure plate. The clutch is rated to hold 450 lb-ft of torque which is plenty for what I plan on doing with this car.

I took the car in to Touge Factory in Wheeling, IL to have the clutch installed. TF did a great job on getting the clutch done quickly. My STi was in and out in one day. They took some pics of the install which I have added to this post. Please take a look below.

How it feels:
I now have 400 miles on the clutch; there is no break in period for the stage 3 clutch due to the material they use to make it. But I am old fashion and put 300 miles on it before putting it thru the paces. First impression was its a lot stiffer pedal pressure than stock, and it is tough to find the sweet spot for a normal take off, after 150 miles the pressure eased up, and it became a lot easier to launch. It feels like power comes on stronger than the stock clutch, and after a session on a curvy back road I couldn’t get it to slip. I made 4 passes on this road which requires a lot of on off throttle, and shifting. The clutch just continued to engage the same every time. I even purposely rode the clutch on a hard start, to try and heat it up and see how it reacts. I was pleased to feel that it felt the same as if it wasn't overheated. One thing I did notice is the trans used to give me a little bit of a grind on a hard acceleration from 4th to 5th, Now with the new clutch and the AMSoil in the trans it has gone away. It has to be either the clutch or the oil, if not both.
Overview:
All in all I am very happy with the Comp stage 3. It gives the holding power that is needed, and the drivability I want since the STi is my daily driver right now. I would recommend this clutch again and again. It’s perfect for the street and track driver this clutch is up to any task that you can throw at it.
.CC part # 15030-2600
Amsoil Severe GearŪ 75W-90 in the trans.
The car: 2011 Subaru WRX STi GVB.
Installer: Touge Factory Wheeling, IL. tougefactory.com

After my tax return I'm ordering this clutch to go with a GTX3076R setup. I hope it's up to the task.

I have my old one for sale, only 1200 miles, no problems, just too aggressive. Fits 02-05 wrx. I am on my phone so I can't link it but just go to my profile.
