Default gc front seats in gd chassis

not a common thing to do but the front leather seats in my 05 saabaru were really uncomfy so I decided to swap them out.

I wanted 02-03 wrx seats because I used to have a 02 wrx and enjoyed the seats in them but I couldn't find one locally for a good price so I decided I'd buy the 2000 RS seats that was offered to me. Bugeye seats here in Canada are a rip off at $250 just for the fronts. One guy was trying to sell me 03 wrx seats for $80 but he had taken the things apart and was gonna take the airbags out too. I said screw that

anyway the GC seats are comfy and sit a lot lower in the gd chassis but there is no support under the thighs so mine are cramping up after driving say 15 mins. What can I do to remedy this?

I was thinking swapping the driver seat rail from the saabaru seats to the GC seat but apparently it can't be done. I was also gonna shim the front mounting points on the GC seats to raise the front edge of it hoping to give me the under thigh support I need

Do GC seats have airbags? I would've shelled out the cash for the added safety, plus those bugeye seats are really comfortable. I almost bought a beat-ass '03 WRX just because I liked the seats so much.

No airbags in the GC seats, but a lot more comfy and supportive than the saabaru leather seats. I just didn't wanna buy what seemed like someone else garbage. The guy was selling me seats that I had to put back together like Lego and didn't have airbags either. So for the same price, I got mint GC seats. For the meantime it'll do but I want the front edge of it sitting higher to support my thighs under neath

I would definitely hold out for some bugeye seats, when i owned my RS and 03 WRX at the same time, it was night and day driving each one. I like the 03 seats better than my 09 in fact.

That's about what they are here too, IMO not a bad price for the comfort. I REALLY want the 07' sti seats for my car but cannot afford them. I would imagine that your saab seats are very similar to the 2.5i seats and I agree they suck.

even though my saabaru seats are heated, they are very cold in winter no matter how u put it. after putting the 2000 RS seats in WOW! what a huge difference. i dont even need the heated feature in these seats and i dont ever remember wishing i had heated seats in my old 02 WRX either

the leather on the saabaru seats are of poor quality. almost like vinyl. my brother has a 2008 Acura TL and the leather seats in those are really good. i know its not a fair comparison but i wish subaru/gm/saab put some real saab seats in the 92x.

my only complaints with the GC seats are the front edge of the driver seat not having the under-thigh support and the right side bolster, the foam underneath is worn down to the point where i can feel the metal.

any ideas?

get 2002-2007 WRX seats. Not 2006-2007TRs. And just think, if you do 2002-2005 WRX seats itll be easier to find matching rear seats. Not so much with 2006-2007!

And yes this is a saab...note the steering wheel

Whats the question?

GC seats are cheaper but as you say "no thigh support" (I have both cars, didn't notice they were different until you said just now).

Just buy some GD seats off CL, the forums aren't good for bulky items like seats. I'd advise against any Subaru seat with a 'fixed' headrest (i.e. 2004 WRX/STi style seats), now those are uncomfortable if you're over 5'4".

Anything is possible with a welder.

I was mainly asking how do I go about fixing the lack of thigh support issue

I guess I'll just have to figure it out for myself as most ppl dont bother with GC seats. I did see a thread on rs25 where the guy added foam to the kidney bolsters. I'm sure the same can be done to the thigh bolsters and underneath the thigh. I do have a mig but being that its -40 C up here right now and not having a garage, I'd rather not do any fabricating till spring at the earliest

I had an 04 and 02 wrx. The bugeye seats were much better for support and comfort. Guess these GC seats will do for now till I can find a bugeye wagon set

So I found some 1/2in foam in my house. Similar to the ones used to insulate water pipes but I think its actually sound deadening used in our local transit buses because my father works for motor coach

My gf wants the GC seats heated so I took them out of the saabaru seats and swapped them in. I also noticed that there's a metal bar I can feel on the side of my ribs when I'm turning so I took apart the drivers GC seats to find the foam had cracked in that area so when u put pressure on it, the metal bar or frame sticks out. That's where I shoved the foam I found, trimmed to the bolster shape. I also added a piece right under my knee/thigh area. The seats are now much better but I don't really like sitting that low so I might sell these and get bugeye seats anyway

The foam is probably cracked and it spreads apart revealing the metal underneath. Only way to check is take out the seat and peel the cover back. If u have the time do it. Once u start working on the seats it gets easier. I kept staring at the seats in the car before and felt intimidated. I felt silly thinking it would be difficult after I took the first seat apart

The foam I used definitely helped
