It really isn't anything but a resonator. If you get one, put it way up in the exhaust stream. It does nothing at the end.

I added a XR-1 to the midpipe of my 93 RX-7.

It cut down the noise a bit and eliminated the droning while cruising.

No noticeable change in power, and does not prevent you from shooting flames if that is your thing.

I have the catback. Single tip, right? Mine is on an 02 WRX.

You're lucky i saw this thread. I just happened to visit Nasioc. This will be my first post in years, lol.

The exhaust is honestly pretty quiet. I really don't think you will have issues. Not as quiet as the Borla Hush from what I've heard but I would say it is on the quieter side of exhausts.

It is quiet at idle and even at low RPM. It does get kind of loud if you are revving up through the power band but even then I don't think its that loud.

In fact I am thinking about swapping mine out for something louder, after having it on the car for 5+ years. Fit and finish are excellent, quality product, I just sometimes want something louder. So if you are concerned about volume, you probably shouldn't be.

I don't have a sound clip per se but I do have an old auto-x video. On a side note, this was the first time my mom came to an auto-x and rode with me, and I spun it going about 50 mph.

I installed the Borla XR-1 catback (140075) about a month ago. Super easy install and the fit and finish is on point, couldn't be happier with it!

Its not super loud like an N1 exhaust which is exactly what I wanted since I'm not in high school, its a noticeable loudness not an in-your-face loudness. At idle its deep and has a nice rumble when you get on it and surprisingly for no resonation the drone isn't bad at all so I can actually talk to anyone else in the car. Of course with the windows down you can definitely hear it.

I had a friend with a Borla and wanted that nice bassy exhaust sound and thats exactly what I got. If you want an exhaust that you can hear blocks away this isn't it but if you want a nice rumble it'll serve you well.

Another tip, not sure where you're getting yours from but through all my research Amazon was the cheapest price I could find.

Had mine on for about 30k miles. No issues. Still looks new. Definitely on the quiet side of the catback market.

So I did a sound clip of mine, I'll post it here once I have the time to edit it together.

I also pulled the XR1 off my car today and replaced it with the Helix CB. Helix CB is definitely louder but not much louder. Definitely deeper than the Borla but relatively similar.

That said, I did have an exhaust leak on my DP-CBE connection, so maybe my impression of the Borla was that it was louder than it should be with a proper gasket. So my sound clip video may not be that relevant after all. Borla still fit well and looked great, I just always wanted the Helix and so I finally got it done.

I have two (both 2004 2.0's) one of which is resonated, that one is quiet and has a deep tone, but my non resonated one is on the raspy side and pretty loud. Not nurspec loud, but pull me over loud. Either way I absolutely love them.

Are you referring to the Borla XR-1 Catback? Or something else? (See Post #2). There seems to be some confusion here....

The reason why I say something is that I would have never described my setup as "pull me over loud".

Ahhh let me clarify because I think I just figured it out, mine is mated to a catless 3" bellmouth. Alone as a catback it's extremely quiet, the down pipe changes it completely.

Hmm. I've definitely heard some WRXes going from aftermarket catted downpipes to catless downpipes. I was under the impression it got a bit louder, but was mostly a change in the sound (more raw).

I ran my car with the catted downpipe and a straightpipe from that and it was unbearably loud. The Borla sounded stock compared to that

I really don't think the Borla XR1 is that loud. But maybe I am less sensitive to loud noises than others... Maybe I listened to too much loud music when I was younger...

The post #2 that I was referring to was something completely different... that looked like a straight pipe of some kind.

I had this on my 02 wagon with a maddad "fake cat" mid pipe and stromung divorced DP. Sounded amazing! lots of whistles and pops, no drone, not obnoxious under DD conditions. The fit and quality are on point, looks like an sti tip so its a bit sneaky and the cops never bothered me. I always got compliments on sound and would buy another one without a second thought. 👍👍
