SO....i kind of thought i was making "version II" of the garage seal front lip....turns out i was making Version III. When he said cut in half, i cut in half the wrong way. lol. i sliced it in half right down the middle longways. instead of cutting the length of the strip in half. i must say, it came out descent. lol

Default Version IV

I had to replace the 1st VII garage door lip since my wife thrashed it (glad it was a cheapo and not a real one!) and I didn't want to do it the same way.

I saw someone do a rigid version by glassing a VII, but didn't want to go to all of that effort, so I kinda went hybrid.

I made an outline of the front lower valance on pressed board left over from the rear diffuser I built and cut it out just wide enough to fit the 2 pieces of rubber put together and fiberglassed it to firm it up and make it waterproof.

I used Weldwood contact cement to bond the lip to the glassed form and bolted the assembly to the bumper.

Of course, this left a huge gap where the valance goes up, so I split the upper portion of the two pieces and used a good section from the old lip and filled in the gap, again, using contact cement to bond everything together.

I went underneath and used Permatex Black Silicone RTV to add additional strength and further bond the lip to the car.

I think it turned out pretty well.

Wow, not exactly following what you did, but it looks really good! You said someone fiberglassed the V.2 lip? Got a link?

Thanks for the compliment!

Here's a better shot of the new lip (don't mind the beat up bumper; it's getting repainted next month!)

I don't remember exactly where I saw the diy on the glassed V.2; coulda been here or scoobymods or any of the many suby forums I've gone through.

Sorry no links, but he basically drew an outline like I did, bolted a V.2 to it and glassed the whole thing.

Turned out really well and he took some heat over the gaping hole between the lip and the raised part of the bumper. He eventually filled the gap pretty much like I did.

I mean i tried it & it looked ok. But i went the real plastic lip for 50 used from a Nasioc member. Thats just me personally. I already have all the holes pre drilled and i have mine ziptied to the bumper and it looks great. So if happen to hit some thing it will pop off and not damage any thing......Including the lip.

Here's a pic. Its all ziptied!

BTW its from an 04/05

Decided my replica v-limited lip needed more thickness. Same mods as shown earlier, it is glued and screwed onto the bottom of the lip. The lip has also been sprayed with truck-bed liner to give it some texture.

You need to upload them to a site like Photobucket and link them here.

Has anyone tried using a heat gun to mold the lip to the bumper better?

Does anyone have the link to the version 1 DIY front lip? Having a tough time finding it in the search. Apparently it's good for a GC8? I was looking at some materials last night at home depot but then came back out to my car and saw that there is a nice line for the lip on the sides, but then it changes in the front so a front lip would look weird at that height (this is on a 95 WRX). Need something to go under the front I guess.

Can I note that double sided tape does not really want to stick for this. Any suggestions to keep the two strips together?
