The only "BBQ" place left in town that I can think of is Dimond BBQ Pit located at 1160 West Dimond Boulevard. When there years ago and don't remember it being bad but I haven't been back so it must not have knocked my socks off.

Yelp shows this place too...Smokehouse BBQ at 5500 Debarr Rd. It has a 4.5 of 5 star rating but no posts since Aug. '11. It may or may not be there.

That Dimond BBQ pit is garbage. Plain garbage.

Their brisket is pretty much shaved beef with run-of-the-mill BBQ sauce you could buy from Fred Meyer on it. Same goes for their other meats. It's just blah.

The Smokehouse is on point. It's definitely far from the best I've ever had, but in AK it's #2 on my list.

#1 is the Turnagain Armpit BBQ just south of Anchorage on the Seward. Can't remember the name of the "town." Eagle, I think?

If you're a white guy, and you feel "out of place," that's usually where the best food is.

OEC Revolving Sushi is good... if you go before 2:00pm, everything is $2.75 or less. Located in the REI Mall.

I Love Sushi on the corner of Lake Otis and Abbot is good for ala carte and sushi meals.

Samurai Sushi over on Muldoon is good too.

Most are really the same American style sushi.

Yamato-ya was great until it got sold and now is no longer japanese owned. Restaurant really went downhill.

Ronnies I didn't like at first but went back twice and they've done good.

Samurai sushi is our preference because we have been customers of theirs for awhile.

Dish is obviously popular but I feel for more of the ambiance. Silk is its sister company and more laid back. Sushi beats night is fun at Dish when those are going on.

Haru is popular with many I know but they really are as americanized as sushi can get. Some of their rolls are so drenched in sauce it's sickening for me personally.

Not interested in revolving myself because they got hit heavily with food inspection violations being one of the worst cited in Anchorage during the Fall.

I love sushi is good.

Sushi ya is good but pricy, they have a more romantic feel there and large wine selection.

Not a fan of Jimmys on Dimond.

I've been to all the sushi places in Anchorage and really it just comes down to customer service at this point and who gives you extras as a frequent visitor. *insert happy ending joke here *

We've gone to Samuri a few times and enjoyed it. They also offer a rice paper wrap incase someone is new to sushi and dislikes the seaweed wrap.

Went to the Dish a couple years back for birthday. Had an alright selection but agree with the above that it's popular for the atmosphere, more than the Sushi. They also seemed to be a bit pricier than other places.

Our current favorite is now Tokyo (out in Wasilla). Good atmosphere, good sushi rolls, and menu also as a variety of Japanese or Chinese food.

Pete's USED to be fairly good, but I haven't been there since before they burned down the old Red Robin/Hacienda building.

I go to Haru almost every time I eat sushi, they have the most consistently fresh fish and specialty fish that I ask for. A few weeks ago I went to Yakitori Sushi on Tudor across the street from McD's (only been open a couple months) and it was pretty good and they also make these skewers that are awesome with several meats and options to have it prepared. So at Haru my chef is a Mustang guy that drives a scion and at Yakitori my chef was a Supra nut, I think he drove a Toyota truck.
