Valid point, and it comes up a lot when I go on about my car and TBH I hope I don't get far enough along to the point where I am spending absurd amounts of money on exterior parts. There are a lot of other things that I think are more worthwhile that should be done before I focus on bodywork.

I originally wanted a WRX but because I was making a deal with the Cash for Clunkers program the WRX didn't qualify. I had a choice of a new 2.5i or OBS and I opted for the 2.5i. Coincidentally the 2.5i (and the OBS too) is essentially a WRX but with a slightly different engine and thus almost all aftermarket parts that fit on a WRX also fit on a 2.5i. Ultimately my plan is to have fun modding the **** out of the 2.5i and when the time comes to sell it I can take all the parts I have put on it and swap them over to a new WRX. So, essentially, I just have a really cool parts bin.

However since then, I have been comparing the WRX to the STi and I have realized the STi really is a much better deal and I have decided that a STi will be my next car and the 2.5i will just be for the lulz since almost nothing will swap over.

For now though, I am pretty happy with the 2.5i and given my heavy foot, I find its lack of power a very good thing. If I had a turbo not only would I be spending a lot of money on engine mods, I would also be getting into a lot of trouble because I don't know how to take my foot off the gas.

If you are going to go with a big wing, I dig this one.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subar...item19c3174178

Still too much for me....though maybe if I had an STI.

^^Too much going on for me. I have never really been a fan of the Varis style spoiler. I have contemplated the WRC spoiler but it lacks adjustability and screams for attention. If I were to get a spoiler I would want something subtle and potentially functional. And yes, I would consider a low rise GT spoiler to be a lot more subtle than both the Varis and WRC style spoilers.

I was in the same boat as you. The WRX missed the MPG requirement by 1 friggen MPG. I was so pissed.

+1 I can't tell you how many times I've passed a cop shooting radar and have been glad I had no turbo

^^^ oh so true! Although I have seen 126mph in my 2.5I. But it was done within a safe restricted air strip.

^^^ I topped at 126 too... on I80. I think cops have it out for Wrx and Sti cause they don't even look twice after seeing the lack of a hood scoop or sti wing on my car. Although i did get pulled over for what the cop described as "driving like an *******" on some backroads, let me off without a ticket, phew. Which leads me to my point I won't get a hood scoop or large wing for my 2.5i.

^^I've been pulled over and had to pop my hood. After I closed the hood the cop said, "This isn't even a WRX, is it?"

I've got a funny story about that, but with about 9 cars. I'll write about it later today during lunch break.

Not trying to hijack here but who has actually lowered a 08+ OBS or RS? Did you just replace the springs?

Many folks just replace the springs. There were some problems in with the OEM struts blowing, but I haven't heard about any for a while. If you want to be extra careful, get a set of 09+ WRX struts to go with the springs.

Some folks do coils, but I think that's probably overkill if you have a DD only car that you just want to drop.

Watch the classifeds on NASIOC and 3gwrx.com, especially on the local/regional boards. Be patient and buy the exhaust locally. It's big and heavy, and you don't want to pay more for shipping that you do for the item.

Do you have any pics of how low it drops it? And is it a real stiff ride? I have spacers so I'm running into problems where if I drop it too much and the springs are too soft it'll rub and bottom out.

Drop in air filter, high flow exhaust, cold air intake with that well known cone shape filter will get some extra power. Wrx or forested suspension, strut tower brace, sway bars if you're into handling over power. Those are easy DIY things you can do in your driveway.

You can't get a CAI on a N/A Impreza. You can go two routes either get a hybrid or short ram intake. If you go the SRI route be prepared to have your car tuned, when a SRI is installed it will cause the ECU to over estimate the amount of air entering the engine and cause the car to run very rich. This can cause problems like stalling, belching black smoke and possibly engine failure. So if I were you i'd go the hybrid route and maybe still get a tune. Or just go with a simple snorkus delete.

Cosmo hybrid "CAI". Also have UEL headers, full exhaust, new spark plugs, etc. Full suspension as well as many cosmetic mods like tint, painted tails, mudflaps, HIDs, blacked out chrome
