SOABlog - will there be SPT parts like an exhaust and intake for the '14 FXT models? I remember being able to buy the SPT parts for the WRX sedan and using them on my '09 FXT.

SOA Blog...

Why is the base 2014 Forester the same price as the base (Premium) Crosstrek XV? Or more specifically, why is the Premium Crosstrek that expensive, both in 6MT?

Interior Volume: Forester
Size: Forester
Gas Mileage: XV (2mpg)
Horsepower: Forester
Torque: Forester

I don't consider the addition of the All Weather Package and aluminum wheels that much of a benefit to the XV, especially being down on power THAT MUCH, because all I'm doing is looking for decent all-weather commuting transportation.

What is Subaru going to do to prevent the Forester from cannibalizing XV sales? I know you can't speak to future models, but considering all the above... the XV is destined to be a slow seller once the 14 Forester hits... what is Subaru going to do to get me in an XV now? I think the XV should be $500-$1000 lower in price to be competitive to the new Forester.

I was ready to buy an XV within the next month... but now, I'm going to wait for a few more to see what's going to happen to pricing and how long the XVs sit on the lots up here in New England and get one at a deep discount when the 14 Foresters outsell them.

Hi KC - the shortest answer is that it's a comnination of additional features not available on the base Forester that creates an overlap in pricing. The XV Crosstrek Premium includes the following items as standard equipment that are not standard on the ‘14MY Forester 2.5i:

• All-Weather Package
• Roof Rails
• Privacy Glass
• 17” Machined Finish Alloy Wheels
• Exterior Cladding
• Fog Lights
• Removable Rear Cargo Tray
• Paddle shift switches
• Sliding center armrest

Hope that helps.

Any and all configurators are broken on the Subaru.com website. I can enter my zip code, but cannot get the dialog to disappear. Enter doesn't work. Pressing the > doesn't work. Tried all the models. Broken.

Windows 8
Tried Both versions of IE10 (Metro and Desktop), Chrome and Firefox. All three are stymied at the Enter Zip Code dialog and cannot get rid of it.

Something goofy definitely going on.... I had that same thing happen to me on March 1 but thought it was my PC, and it worked fine later when I rebooted.... Now I just went to the site and the entire site has reverted to the Feb. "True Love Event" and all financing offers expire Feb. 28, when yesterday I know it was updated to the March event.

Surely, someone at SOA must already know about this.

Yep. Same here. "Share the love until Feb 28" is still up for me to. I'm thinking someone forgot to have cookies expire on a certain date. Cleared history. Cleared cache. Still there.

SOA should offer VIP pricing to SCCA members. VW is the only other automaker that does it, but more Subarus participate in SCCA events than Volkswagens

SOA Blog,

I have two subaru's, a 2011 Outback Limited, and a 2013 Legacy

Both have Homelink, but both exhibit different behaviors.

The outback will allow you to control the garage doors with the ignition off, no keys

The Legacy requires the keys to be in and ACC to be on.

What's the expected behavior, and was there a change and why?

Dealer is claiming expeted behavior on the Legacy, I've never had a car with homelink react in this manner.

AWDPilot, I am assuming that in both cars you have the apparently identical mirror with Homelink buttons on the mirror. I have a 2010 Outback Limited and can assure you that it is NOT supposed to work without the ignition keys, as the autodimming mirror itself is only powered when the car is on, including the Homelink, and as far as I know, that wiring harness only has that one source of power.

Which leads me to ask: Does your compass and your green power LED light also stay on when the car is off? If so, you may have a defect in your electrical wiring.

The argument for non-functioning Homelink without a key is that if your car is parked in your driveway, someone can break into your car and open your garage door without a key.

I understand that.

The outback is in the shop I will take a video and post when we get it back on Friday. And no the compass does not light all the time in the outback.

Good morning SOA Blog. I just bought another subaru that brings my previous ownership into the teens. Love my Tangerine crosstrek premium.

One question before I make the purchase...

It's come to light that the underhood of the Tangerines are unpainted. Mine being no exception. However, that drew another question out of me...

Why does the CVT have sound deadening under the hood and the 5MT doesn't? It's would be under $100 or so for me to add it to my 5MT, but before I do, was it something safety related that they did not add it? I wouldn't mind it being jsut a hair more quiet, but not at the cost of safety.

I predict "they" don't reply for at least a week...

"They" always disappear 'round here when there's lots of new model/auto show stuff going on. Too much work to do! SOA: Hire more folks to staff the SOA Blog position!!!

I know he/they said there was more than one; but, I believe there is just one. Makes sense as to why we get few responses.

The sound deadening to the CVT models was to help quiet the perceived noise from the transmission... That wasnt needed on the 5mt.

SOA Blog: The new WRX concept looks amazing! Can you bring that to production without neutering it?

The Legacy concept in 2009 looked great, then the production 2010 Legacy went bland.
The Impreza concept in 2011 looked great, then the production 2012 Impreza went bland.

Can you please avoid blanding the WRX?

So what you're saying is it may make the 5MT even quieter? That's what I want to know... does it make a difference or not?

I see blue gauges, blue start stop button and I assume the center bin cargo area has a blue led light like on the MY08 WRX. Maybe blue footwell lights too.
