Default 08+ 2.5i muffler?

Hey guys,
I looked around the forums quite some time but couldn't find an abundance of information on this topic.
Im not looking to enhance the power in my car. I understand its no WRX. But, I do find it to be...a little too quiet. I would like to actually hear the engine working. I have a long list of little things Id eventually like to do to the car but I thought a simple muffler swap would be a good start since I dont feel like spending $800 for a catback right now.

My question is, all these mufflers Im finding are in a straight through design. My HATCH has the muffler mounted sideways and then a pipe bends outwards towards the back. What do I do in this case? Is there an option out there for me where I wouldnt have to spend $300+ dollars? Do I just buy a universal muffler, lets say a magnaflow, and then a tip and just take it to a muffler shop?

Ive seen some photos of people with hatches have mufflers mounted in a straight front to back position but Im not sure how that works.

Any help would greatly be appreciated. Links to examples?

-Kamil

They make axle back kits. Or any competent exhaust shop could weld in a muffler if you don't mind hacking up the factory pipe. (I would)

Yeah, I dont mind getting a new one, but Im trying to see if theres a more economical option given that mufflers are around $100 and the only (and limited) axle backs that Ive seen are 3-4x times that for essentially the same thing.

go to exhaust shop and have them take the botls off and remove the muffler. then have them weld u a straight pipe for the back.(did this to mine. cost 80 dollors and sounds good. not to loud at all.)also you can bolt the old exhaust back on if u have to take it in for anything at the dealer and they wount even know.

Just take the muffler off and see how you like the sound. I took my mufflers off of my 2.5i and love you it sounds without it, people always say it sounds good and ask what type of exhaust I have, not nearly as loud as you'd think. If you don't like it, it bolts right back up.

I have purchased the 08 WRX Magnaflow catback Dual Tip exhaust for my 2010 2.5i. I am wondering if anyone else has purchased this and have installed it on a 2010 impreza 2.5i. I need to know if there is any modications needed to be done to flanged or not. This has not been clearly defined in other posts. Also anyone have photos of the imstalled pipe at the flanged.

Ya, it sounds and looks great installed. I am very happy with it, I paid 600 for the cutback and 80 to have it installed in 30 mins, since I wasn't sure of the direct fit at the time.

I got a stock WRX catback. Bolt-on install... barely any difference in sound. meh.

I had purchased the OBX catback and ran it for a while before upgrading the headers to rallisport racing uel's

The OBX catback can be had for about $300 shipped and has a nice deep tone with ZERO drone.

Just catback
