Default What is this sensor?

I have an 05 STi, this sensor has been hanging out for awhile- wondering

what it is? What is it's function? Why is mine not hooked up to anything? and what it should be hooked up to if anything?
Bought the car with the sensor hanging out not connected, friend on the phone said maybe something with the PCV system but couldnt verify without seeing it.

Mods on the car:
Arias Pistons
Eagle Rods
APS FMIC
K&N Typhoon
Invidia N1 CBE
Invidia V2 Bellmouth DP
GMS Turbo Inlet
TXS MBC
TXS BPV
etc etc

thanks in advance

It's not a sensor. The pipe lets PCV gasses pass through, the jack just shorts the two pins in the plug together to tell the ECU it's plugged in. Few people actually leave all of it connected, most just use some pliars to pull the shorting jumper out of the jack, plug it into the plug, then electrical tape it out of the way and throw away the part with the pipe since it doesn't do anything.

Alright great, thanks for the info, my friend stopped by and tried to hook it back into my pcv system, but I have a catch can, and the hoses for it didn't fit the pipe part. I showed him the post above, so I'm going to try to pull the jumper and plug it back in, although I haven't gotten a CEL with it just hanging out there.
