Having a running bug eye is something to be proud of. Ive yet to see a decent bug eye when I drive mine. Granted I need to get the headgaskets done before it becomes an internal leak, but it still runs great and looks close to new. I get props from newer drivers all the time. They are shocked to see a bugeye that isn't a pos.

My 04 STI has a bugeye front end, because they are the best. Stick with it.

bugeye wagons are great little rally cars. A lot of them are ending up in the garage of amateur ralliest getting set up for their next life! I am in the search for one now as we speak!

I feel the OP's pain in a way. I see a lot of talk here about the newest generation of wrx/sti's. Of course I love my peanut and would take a bugeye as a second when it comes to style. But can't help but feel a bit old, maybe out of touch with the new guys.

besides the air pump, plastic manifolds and the 25% bump in displacement...
The 06' and 07' still use an aluminum intake and differ from the 02'-05' by having a non catted up-pipe. However, the use of a non catted up-pipe requires Secondary air injection to meet emissions in FED and Cali.

Nope not depressed about that, just happy to have one again. Even after a stage 2 '11 sti i just prefer the rawer feeling of the 02. I did most if the same mods when I originally had a bug eye so the text refresher is good enough.

If someone had not stolen my '03 wagon I would not have bought my '08 or '11. I still smile when my son pulls up in his(my original) '02 2.5Rs.

I've owned my bugeye sedan for almost 6 years now, and shes only getting better as time passes. The GD and GC will always hold a special place in the hearts of the Subaru community. The days of seeing tastefully modded bug sadly are gone. Its a shame that many bugs and other early usdm turboed imprezas are falling to ruin and or horrible ownership. It make those who owners have worked to pain stakenly take care and improve that much more special.

Maybe I should have clarified a bit more, but my depression is not owning the car, but just the fact that a lot of the old threads relating to it are either outdated or the links/pics no longer work.

For example, I was looking through some threads about grille mods and all I saw that all of the pics were red X's.

I absolutely love the car!!

I actually plan on turning the car into an STX car for autocross!!

Which reminds me... Do any of you know where I would be able to source the update 5 speed trans for the car? A stronger trans would be nice for racing.

But this year, I think my I will be getting her some 17x8 Enkei RPF1's!

QFT, just wait, we will start getting an influx of stupid vinyl print hoods, chalkboard hoods, and crap hanging from unnecessary rear towhooks. Actually... I have already started to see it.

I don't think bugeye's are dead... however, I can agree that there are a large amount of 'new' GRs around on the forums. They have been out for 5 years now! That's actually insane to think about. Hell, I got into the game when the 2006 was just coming out.

I still consider 2008's... new... lol.

Don't fret, bugeyes are awesome and the first WRX in the states.

The op was referring to old pictures but fwiw, I miss my 02 dearly..

Bought it from a member here in VA, flew there and drove back to Canada by myself in a weekend. Kept it for 3 yrs, got a dog and suddenly felt the need of,more room. Sold it for nearly what I got it for and got a 2002 crv automatic lol. Needless to say, I regret it to this day

I have since sold the crv and found a 2005 92x aero for cheap. That car meant to me more than any other car. The 92x still hasn't fill the void, I dont know what can

This thread just made me think, the GR chassis has now been around in production as long as the GD chassis. 02-07 08-13...crazy
