Default Deer stories

Man. I got so lucky just now. Dodged a deer from hitting my front passenger end. Ended up throwing himself into my passenger door rear. No damage. Praise the subaru gods

I've seen quite a few deer and moose while driving, plus turkeys, fox, raccoon etc...

Closest I've ever come to being in a wreck with one was a few weeks ago a friend of mine was driving, a deer ran across the road in front of the van in front of us. Van dodged it, I told my friend to slow down (pro tip : Deer pretty much always come in groups of 2 or more). He did, we just saw the second deer in a field to our left, I turned around in the car to watch it run out and hit a car. No injuries to the passengers, deer ran off somewhere, just some damage to the passenger side front end.

Damn. Both got lucky. I just got my csr back from the shop not too long ago. I woulda been furious 1. If I lost it again. 2. If you busted up mu front end which all got fixed with the rad.

Had a similar thing happen in 2000...

The thread still exists! http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...highlight=deer

Driving last night, bambi popped out of the woods to say "Hi!". At the time, I was going about 60 in a 50, talking to my wife in the passenger seat.

She yelled "DEER" and I braked and swerved hard into the oncoming lane. The deer just stayed on the shoulder, so I mashed the gas. The guy behind me must have thought I was a loon.

As I was passing the deer, the whole car shuddered, and rocked violently - then it was all over. Bambi head-butted my car!

I pulled over to inspect the damage. Small dent in the passenger door, with a scrape down the side of the car to the rear wheelwell. At the rear wheelwell, I must have knocked out some of babmi's teeth, because there are some nasty gouges in the sheet metal there.

As most of you know, I am planning on trading my GLX for a new WRX this spring - so I don't think I'll bother fixing the damage. My wife and I got a good laugh out of it, but are very thankful the incident resulted in only trivial consequences.

Watch out for yourselves MidWesterners, this is a dangerous time of year!

Whenever I visit Wisconsin, my cousins always take me for a drive in their pick-em-up trucks to go hunting. The first time they took me, I thought we'd be using guns or bows. Soon after, I realized why their trucks were always dented to high hell... they'd chase down deer that crossed over roads to hit them.

Back in '03 was on my way home from the gf's house after watching some late night Olympics. I was driving quickly on a twisty mountain road in my fairly new to me obs. I decided to test out my brakes and stood on them. As I came to a stop 2 deer jumped onto the road about 30 yards in front of me.

In '07 my wife was doing 35 in her Outback and a deer ran out in front and totaled the car. It left behind only hair and dents.

In '08 I was driving to work on an icy road in the dark. I saw 3 deer in a field headed toward the road about 100 yards ahead and started braking. The car was sliding and the abs was going crazy. The first two deer ran across the road and the third turned back as it saw me. I knew she was going to turn back around because deer are stupid like that. As I continued to brake I was almost even with the deer and doing about 30 the deer turned and bolted right at me. I came even with the deer and started swerving into the oncoming lane and she actually angled across the road and stayed with me. Right as I got to the opposite shoulder I had to turn back into the road and she stumbled on the ice and head butted my fender and her ass swung around and hit the door.

Of course she got up and ran away after that

I've only hit one deer prior to owning my 2013 wrx, and I hit it with a 95 F150, somehow it didn't damage the truck, how? I have no idea.

Until recently I managed to take another few animals under my belt. A month ago I had no choice but to cut a raccoon down with the middle of my front bumper, knowing these 2011+ bumpers are prone to cracking easily especially in cold weather- I was certain it was going to be cracked. Much to my surprise the bumper was completely fine, the raccoon who met his fate at about 45/50mph, not so much

Two weeks ago I was on my way to work at about 5am driving down a 4 lane road (2 per side), I was in the far right lane. I had a car in front of me, cars along my left side, a few behind me, and a big cement curb on my right side. I'm following along at 55mph or so, probably a little close to the guy in front, honestly. The car in front of me slowly moves over to the left lane between two cars that exist there- he doesn't touch the brakes once, nor does he quickly cut over- he does it nice and easy. As soon as he clears my vision of what is in front of him I see it, a big ass lump of animal laying dead in the road! He moved over so slowly but in JUST the right amount of time, he damned near hit the side of the animal. I have a curb to my right, cars on my left, and the the animal dead ahead. It all happened very sudden, I stood on the brake briefly and probably scrubbed speed down to about 35 realistically- but it wasn't enough. I let off the brake and got ready for my jumping of horse-deer. Obviously this all happened within probably 2 seconds prior to impact. I squared up and hoped for the best, hitting it center of bumper (but definitely getting both wheels on it as well). It made an awful sound as I traversed the carcass of horse-deer. My mind raced during this 2 second event and I thought "well, your bumper could survive the beheading of rocky but this will be the end of it surely!" I bounced over the animal and much to my surprise I couldn't hear the sound of me running over my own bumper. Nothing could be heard except the profanity flying from my mouth! I stopped at a gas station to find blood, guts, poop, hair- it smelled like a farm. I looked at the seams where the bumper clips into the fenders expecting a giant gaping void where it once hung so tightly, nothing! It was still intact, I couldn't believe my eyes. I rushed off to work into downtown Chicago through an hour of rain and home again all week and it wasn't enough to wash my car. I had hair on the rear bumper, the passenger door, obviously the front. Myself and a friend lifted my car to do work to it and found more guts and hair below.

I'm not sure if it was a horse or a deer, but it was the biggest animal I've ever hit- how it didn't destroy the front bumper I'll never know. I'm sure most won't believe it, but it happened! I would've cringed hitting this in my truck for what it's worth

The reason I call it horse deer is because I swear I saw a blanket on it as it layed in the road milliseconds before I jumped it Obviously if it was a horse it must've been juvenlie.

Also, my bumper had been off prior to this by myself and friend putting in retrofitted/painted headlights. Also I have a clear bra on the front of my car. My friends joke that the clear bra held it together

I've had two accidents with moose. I didn't die, which is always a plus. Yes, moose are in the deer family.

The night I bought my Dodge Ram I hit a deer. No vehicle damage.. tore the deer in half though. My truck was just trying to tell me it was going to be a good truck.. It didn't lie. It always took care of me.

When I owned my CRX years back, I was returning home from a friend’s house when I saw about 3 deer crossing the road. I slowed down to an almost stop and started creeping about 100-200ft away to let them cross. When I thought they all crossed, I started back off on my way when a little baby straggler went sprinting across the road. Slammed the breaks, made light slow speed contact, and pushed the deer about a foot. No damage but scared the hell out of me.

Last year I went backpacking through Tahoe on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) and on the 9th day I randomly decided to head out through Emerald Bay. My brother’s friend picked me up around midnight and we start our trip back West towards Roseville on Hwy 50. We were cruising around 75mph following another vehicle. We almost hit nearly 2 raccoons and 2 deer on the way home. Every time it was the run out, stop last minute, and turn around routine. One raccoon was literally in the middle of the highway and we were able to swerve around him. Each scare we reduced cruising speed, by the 4th scare we where cruising around 55mph. I wonder what a deer would do at 75mph to a Saturn Ion.

Christmas night back in '05 I was driving around in my winter beater looking for some food (yeah nothing was open) and it was foggy as hell, couldnt see 20 feet infront of you, I was coming down a back road and WHAM out of no where he ran right into my passenger side fender/bumper. I had about one second to hit the brakes, enough I only heard them lock up for a fraction of a second before we hit. I called the cops, and they said they would send some one over. I waited 45 min while me and this dear just chilled there. He had a broken leg and couldnt get up and I didnt want to just leave him in the road. Finnaly the cop showed up, shot the dear dragged him off the road and sent me on my way lol. From that point on I am always nurviouse a deer is going to jump out when I drive on dark road - never under estimate them. I was lucky it was my beater car and not my SRT4 (at the time) which I had about 15grand into, that would of sucked!

Okay, here's my story.

When I was younger I saw a deer when I was out in the woods with my dad and his friend. It barely moved, looked majestic as it ate something from the ground. I went to give it a pat on the head and next thing I knew I heard a loud POW sound and immediate pain. Some old fat dude shot the deer and hit me in the chest. What happened from there was a little sketchy and I can't remember much but waking up in an old farm house with a veterinarian removing bullets from me.

Heading back to Oklahoma from Texas one night with my dad and another guy we race with, on some random ass two lane in the middle of nowhere in an almost-new 3/4 ton Chevy deisel. A deer hops a fence next to the road and hit us square in the drivers front door. We find out what's going on and spot the deer in the ditch flopping around and whatnot. Driver grabs his pistol and gets out cussing and ready to shoot him. I guess the deer noticed cause it jumped the fence just as he shot and took off into the dark. Left his whole door dented in, that deer must have been gettin it on

I had a deer jump out when I was driving home from school at like 11pm at night. Deer jumped out and was probably under an inch from hitting my driver side headlight. So lucky. Its leg might have scraped my headlight.

True story from a local newspaper: Game wardens in northern NH set up a fake deer in a field by a road to catch people illegally shooting game from their vehicles. They observed a guy shoot the decoy deer several times, then they walked up in plain clothes and asked him what he was doing. His response was something like, "Shhhhhh. There's a deer in the field!"

I hate posting on this thread...

My obp 2012 is in the shop for the third week now because of a hoofed bastard. Jumped out while i was cornering, i touched the brakes and was recovering out of a spin and clipped some rocks along the cliff side to my right. It happened too fast... Didn't seem like much damage; drove home. Didn't even hit the deer could have added to my venison stockpile. My favorite part of my day is getting in my wrx after work and now i can't for at least two more weeks.

When i was 16 i hit two in one night, half an hour apart... There are a lot of deer where my parents live, stoney creek michigan area. That minivan was a beast, no damage except for a busted headlight.
