Suzuki still hasn't even put them on a boat to get here yet. They say end of March though.

The rear tail light section and those front fender reflectors will be the first things to go/be replaced as well as those mirrors. I already have a 39mm flat slide carb sitting here, jetted for the MRD/SSW exh I have on the way.

I've wanted a DR but was concerned with the 400 speed, and the 650 is just to much and far in between used to find a great deal.

The 400 is faster than the 650 anyway. Its a like 35hp bike and the 650 is like 30.

The 400 does about 95-100 with the throttle pegged all the way, a bit over if you mod it. Apparently with my planned mods I could probably get around 105-110. But honestly, that kind of speed on a dirt bike would be pretty sketchy. But yeah, its plenty fast acceleration wise up to around 80 with a couple mods. A carb/pipe and 3x3 airbox mod gets you right at 40whp, and its only a like 310lb bike once you get rid of the super heavy pipe. I am going to do cams on it a few months after I get it I think. They are pretty cheap and an easy install. Maybe a BB kit this time next year. Cams+BB kit+39mm FCR and that MRD exh get you 50+whp, which on a bike like this will be insanely quick. You can get to 60whp for like $2800 bucks if you really want to push it. I doubt you would have any problem out running anything less than a liter bike up to around 60ish at that point.

My buddy has a 650 and I have been on a 400 before, it was much much faster in top speed and acceleration.

The 650 he has will cruise at 100 all day and tops out at 120 or so. Well it hits an acceleration wall at 120. From 80-100 it will go fast enough to pass a car if needed.

Anywhere in the normal driving speed ranges the supermoto 400 will be faster. Its a 100lb lighter bike that is geared more aggressively. Actually I am pretty sure they are within 2-3whp of one another as well. The 650 is larger, but the 400 is a higher performance motor for its size, so the power output is a lot closer than you would think.

It won't matter with mine, I already have the 39mm FCR sitting here, a pipe on the way and cams won't be too far off. BB kit next year and I should be putting right around 50whp down on a 300lb bike. WAY more than enough for a supermoto. I can't think of any good reason to have more than that.

Post up the town/hwy mileage you get along with top speed and a good cruising hwy speed you get on it. Like to know if it walks a lot on the hwy. I'm sure it will need a lot of suspension adjustments to help with the light front end.

Always wanted a motard but always felt I had to give up something to get one when another bike might do what I'd like better. I just need one of everything to be happy.

Oh I have ridden WAY more bikes than I have ever owned. I don't really make it a point to ask but friends offer or have issues and need advice on how it rides.

Kawa makes a 250 motard in certain years.
Suppose to be 70mpg, 2 gallon tank and 25hp.

Might be an option after I hear what the 400sm will do.

My neighbor who buys and resells bikes is bringing by an 01 Honda Shadow 1100 for me to look at today. Something like 7000 miles with a black paintjob with custom blue flames, but no other modifications. I've been thinking it's time to move out of the sportbike as an every day ride. My bad wrists can't handle the vibrations from the SV's clip ons.

The SV has clip ons? Thought they ran bars like a FZ or touring bike?

Go touring before cruiser. Well if you are going to ride for a long time anyway.
Reason they call them touring bikes. You can go 600 miles and it's not that big a deal. Cruisers sit nice but not ideal for loads and loads of continuous riding.

Yep. Fixed a few issues and did a lot of maintenance. Runs like it's new, despite my adding 10,000 miles to it.

Mine is an SV650s. The 650s has clip ons. Standard SVs have bars.

I don't take long trips on my bike. Longest has maybe been eighty miles round trip. Most of my riding is to work, school, or martial arts class. I can't leave the house for a long time because of the two old dogs, and if I go out of town, I take one of the cars.

Cruisers and naked/standard bikes are much more my style. I ****ing hate the way most touring bikes look. They look like top heavy old man rides. Not my cup of tea at all. I like light and sleek.

You say that now. I said the same thing a long time ago. If you don't ride a lot of miles/distance then yeah no need for a touring bike.

I would consider an FZ6 as a light touring bike. Doesn't have the seat or the space for long long trips but you can ride 500 miles or so on it no sweat.

I know they look ugly and I agree but that kinda stuff goes out the window once you ride one you actually like.

I have a Aprilia SR50 factory I have been thinking about selling. I know it looks nothing like a Ruckus but it beats it in top speed, acceleration, MPG, handling, and stopping. I just had a new Malossi crank and top end installed 300 miles ago.

Looks like this roughly...
