Default Morimoto xB Angel Eyes on a GR Subaru WRX (Pics)

I installed a set of Morimoto LED angel eyes today on a 2011 WRX. As far as angel eyes go, these are by far my favorite. Very even light, turn on instantly, and brighter than standard CCFL angel eyes. I also painted the headlight shrouds and added HID kits to both the low beams (5000k) and fog lights (3000k). Keep in mind, pics of these angel eyes are taken in broad daylight.

looks really nice and classy~

what lighting options do you have with the angel eyes?> do they have a switch of their own or do they engage as DRLs?

if the latter... would love to know how you wired it.
welldone!

I tapped into the parking lights, so they turn on only when the parking lights are on. I suppose you can wire them any way you'd like, but I thought this was the best setup.

What size rings did you use? Looks like you got them big enough to mount further back on the shroud. How would they look if they were right on the rim? (smaller ring, further forward)

So I did this a while ago and I'm just now getting around to posting up my pics. I didn't like the look of the yellow xB's so I picked up some silver tail light tint from Autozone and sprayed them until I could just barely see the yellow. I had to repaint one of them because I used tape to hold them to the shroud while I was gluing them on and the tape pulled the paint up.

Enjoy! I hear a lot of people complaining about the new chrome headlight shrouds on the '12s and '13's and wanting to swap for the "more aggressive" black ones or painting them, but I wanted to see what all silver and chrome would look like. Kinda reminds of of Silver Surfer or something. So far I haven't seen anyone else doing it, maybe it will catch on

Those actually look pretty good. I usually write angel eyes off as ricey but I like these.

Do they look yellowish when they're off or is that just the photo?

They are yellowish when off. That's the only draw back. Take a look at a white LED at some point and you'll see a little yellow phosphor coating. These angel eyes have the coating over all of it.

The ones that you can purchase from Lightwerkz doesn't look yellow when they're off, but they seem to only last a year. :/

You asked OP what diameter he used then showed your own install, what size did you opt for?

Also what method did you choose for the wiring?

90mm. xB morimotos from the retrofit source. I wired them up as DRLs. Basically I unpluged the OEM DRLs from the resistor and used some wire splices to tap into the signal being sent to the DRLs. Since the resistor is on the passenger side, I had to run a separate wire across to the driver side. It was easy with the front bumper off.

Halos are on with the car running e-brake off and headlights "off" or in "parking light" mode. Halos are off when low beams are on and off when high beams are on.

Oh and I forgot to mention the ground wiring is to the black wire on the parking bulb on each side. Make sure you splice into the right wire on the DRLs (whichever one is NOT black).

How did you get the Headlight housing apart? Did you have to bake it?

yes you bake it in a oven or use a heat gun and you gently take it apart.
