Default heading to vegas! Needs advice.

Going for the very first time! I heard the 15 is the only way to get there. Lots of cops on the way ? Best time to leave to avoid traffic ? What you think I should do and don't! I will speed but under controlled circumstances. AKA the wife lol.

15 is the shortest way. If you take the 15 to Baker, and then go north on the road to Death Valley, you are on a 2 lane back road, no cops. You go to Tecopa Hot Springs, turn right and go about 30 miles. That road "T"'s into the road going from Vegas to Pahrump, turn right and drive into Vegas. That route is about 30 miles longer than the the 15, but is mainly on deserted back roads and lots of fun to drive. You can also get to Vegas on back roads going through 29 Palms, down by Palm Springs. Drove that once before, good back roads, no cops. That route is probably 30 miles longer than the 15 also. Have fun whatever you do.

Take the 15. It's a short drive. Leave after 9am and before 12pm and you'll miss most of the traffic. Keep it under 80 and you won't get pulled over. Make sure to fill up before you go, because gas is pricey in between. Finally, stop at the Mad Greeks (off the 15) for some awesome Gyro's.

I agree with everyone else saying to leave early. I would also avoid driving on a Friday afternoon if you can, since that's usually when the traffic is at its worst.

leaving from escondido, took the 15 north to temecula to 29 palms. that took me about an hour and a half. then from 29 palms to vegas was about 3 hours. the drive from 29 palms to vegas is sketch because there is NOTHING out there. no gas stations, nothing. but that works out because there are no cops along that route.

also took the 15 north to the 215 north back onto the 15 north (it's what the GPS said) late at night (as to avoid traffic) and made it to vegas in 4 hours maintaining about 80 mph.

The drive to Vegas is awesome especially at night, i get all giddy when I see the Luxor lights. Driving back is the worst due to traffic, i try to leave at 10am to avoid all that ****. Next time, ill rent a car one way, airport to airport. Then fly back. Too bad its cheaper to fly there than to fly back to LA. Can't wait until they build that high speed railway from Victorville to Vegas.

So vegas is the **** and the drive was awesome although I was not a fan of high altitude and hotter weather. Man my car was slower lol. I even blew a code maxing out my maf sensor lol. I left at 1:20pm and managed to run into traffic in the middle of the freaking dessert. How the helll does that happen, seriously. On the way there I left san marcos around 6 ish and did not have any issuses and the drive was awesome. I kept contemplating weither not to hit up some sand but I didnt want to run the risk of blowing a tire so I just hit up some little dirt parking lot and did my thing after I got myself a gyro for the road. Thanks guys for the help next time Im Leaving at night to catch a glimpse of the sky and the light show

I say drive fast, take chances, and flip the cops off when you see them. J/K drive semi normal and your fine. You can take the back road out of Baker that goes thru Pahrump then up into the mountains then back down into vegas. A little longer but a fun drive with a subie.

no cops till you're almost there, then there's like 20 cop cars approx 10 miles away
once you start seeing lights from mandalay bay or luxor stop speeding.

There's also some other dumbass that's driving much faster... go behind him

In ca keep it at 90 on cruse and don't Change lanes to often. If you get a cop behind you slowly let it go to 80ish. No brakes and drive normals have fun too

Don't have to go to Pahrump, cut off at Tecote Springs and go over to the road from Vegas to Pahrump, save about 50 miles.

HEED THIS!!!! I went around this time in 2009, had just bought my WRX about 6 months prior. WATCH OUT FOR DUST CLOUDS, DO NOT DRIVE INTO THEM, IT WILL **** YOUR **** UP. I don't know if you would be able to see them at night, but if you do see a sand storm, I would try to pull over and let it pass, I don't care what everyone else is doing. Insurance covered it but it sux.

There are other things for entertainment in Pahrump! However, the cut off makes the trip to Vegas shorter.
